I'm not considering the Acer as too expensive. Folks, I had a LG 21:9 Ultrawide 29EA73 coupled with a Dell Ultra Sharp U2412 IPS and unfortunately I was away over the New Year period and was burgled. They took the LG which I really liked and want to replace with another Ultrawide. I see there are curved screens now but they may be beyond my budget. Would appreciate any thoughts\advice while I am waiting to have my insurance claim processed. I live in Melbourne.

I've just re-installed the 800\900 and 600\700 expansion. Install using PMDG 737 8900 NGX.exe (and PMDG 737 6700 NGX RTM.exe) then PMDG 737 8900 NGX SP1c.exe (and PMDG 737 6700 NGX SP1c Update.exe). When you select the aircraft in FSX for the first time you will be prompted for the Activation Code which you can get by logging into your PMDG account and selecting "View Previous Orders". Select the relevant order number and you will see the activation key at the bottom.

Ditto that, I've just replaced with UT2 but I did stick with it for many years. The AI looked a bit crude and the interface a bit limited. Time for a change. Some others best not to mention but are sitting on the shelf in a holding pattern as my son might enjoy them one day.

Avsim is the first and only forum I participate in. Sure at first it was daunting but I remember well when I went from Newbie to Member and the personal satisfaction it gave me. I have not had any problems with 'bullies' and have generally found Avsim provides an excellent vehicle to pursue this hobby that I have enjoyed for many years now. I have also made a good friend who I hope to see again soon. Any initiative that helps new members gain confidence will definitely be worthwhile. Personally I think the term 'Newbie' should be replaced with something a little less crude. New Member would be good. I haven't read all the posts btw.

Hi Julian, I hope you were able to complete the video as I removed it to make room for other stuff, but I can put it back up if necessary. No it was not full motion and to be honest I was disappointed with the quality of graphics. I did ask for a 25 knot crosswind for landing and I think I got that - you will have seen the result. Ted, I'm not sure a boycott would be particularly useful in this instance but perhaps we should have a post dedicated to the X52 Pro and related issues. I'll be re-installing Windows soon and will first load the MadCatz drivers. This time I will not be installing the USB3 controllers. I have a second machine (my old one which I've rebuilt for the kids) and the drivers installed no problem but on that mobo there is no USB3. I like the stick and the profile editor but it is a little tricky to figure out. One thing I don't like is the notch in the throttle but I hear some people remove that. Dave, you need to install the drivers first and then the profile software. Make sure you 'Run as Administrator'. The latest versions (for Win 7/64) can be downloaded from Saitek and are... Saitek_X52Pro_Flight_Controller_7_0_27_13_x64_Drivers.exe Smart Technology 7_0_27_13 64Bit.exe If the drivers failed to install then follow this procedure from Saitek support (Sydney). 1. Unplug your device from the computer 2. Uninstall the drivers 3. Uninstall the SST programming software 4. Delete the Saitek folders from the following paths : C:\Program Files C:\Windows\Temp 5. Delete Saitek registry entries: -Press and hold the Windows key on your keyboard and then press the letter R. This will open the Run box. Type regedit and then click ok. The Registry Editor will have a list of folders on the left hand side. Go down into the following folders in order by clicking the + next to the folder name. +HKEY_CURRENT_USER +System +CurrentControlSet +Control +Media Properties +Private Properties +Direct Input Delete any folder inside the Direct Input folder that begins VID_06A3. Close Registry Editor. 6. Download and install USBDeview from the link below. http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usbdeview-x64.zip Once installed - Right click on the icon and select run as administrator. It will show you all the USB devices you have had installed on the PC. Remove any Saitek entries as well as the unknown ones. 6. Reboot 7. Install the latest drivers and DO NOT PLUG IN YOUR X52 until the install program ASKS you to or you will have to redo this whole process. If you have the Intel USB3 controllers installed then you will probably have to uninstall them first. I hope Saitek will develop some new drivers that are compatible with USB3 supported mobos. I will follow up with them on this.

Folks, I have been having the nightmare from hell with the MadCatz drivers. I have just built a new rig (see my side board) and very nice too but when it came to loading the latest MadCatz drivers my Christmas turned into a mad battle between what Windows wants to do and what I need to do. I've had the X52 Pro for a while and use the MadCatz profile editor in conjunction with EZDok. The throttle wheel I use to map the FSX key commands for increase\decrease selection (basically zoom in\out). Well the drivers would simply not load. I spent many hours trying to resolve this issue including contacting the Saitek support guy in Sydney who gave me some useful advice but alas it still didn't work. I think I have finally solved the problem which seems to be an incompatibility with the Intel USB3 controller drivers and the USB2 device (the X52). I say this because I uninstalled the Intel drivers and then the MadCatz drivers and profiling software installed normally. My mistake was then to re-install the Intel USB drivers. This then caused the profiling software to fail so I attempted to uninstall the Intel drivers again. Nope they now won't uninstall and somehow my Logitech Setpoint software is stuffed and won't uninstall either. After so many system lock ups and restores I will now re-format my hard drive and start again. I am really fed up and would be using much more colourful language if I was not communicating my experience on a public forum.

Corsair H100i picked up today and installed with 4 fans. It was a bit of a squeeze and had to do without a few of the holding bolts as the radiator impacts the case top by about 2mm. However I'm running at 4.5GHz and it's very early days yet! A +10c drop in temps changing from H80.

Me too, love it! Tomorrow will start building new rig with Asus Z87 Expert with 4770K + Samsung 840 Pro 256GB. How am I going to sleep tonight. :p0504:

Success! The connection is not a particularly tight fit and takes a little fiddling but good now. I actually got the shop to test it today with the HDMI cable which itself wasn't cheap. I got a reply from Gigabyte so I might get back to them and see what they think about that.

I'm preparing to build a new rig over Christmas and just wanted to check that to install the 8\900 and 6\700 expansion I install the base packs first and then SP1c (for both). I want to confirm that I don't need to install the intermediate hot fixes, SP1 and SP1b. :Thinking:

Yes I did that, been caught out before :lol:. I'm getting new mobo and cpu at Xmas so will try again then. The card is quite new, still had the plastic cover on the port. It's funny that my system at work has also been temperamental - 2 x 27" Ultra Sharp on Quadro 2000 (HDMI and display port). Maybe I'm cursed or something :unsure:

I just purchased a LG IPS 29" Ultra Wide along with a new HDMI cable. I'm unable to get any signal out to the monitor. I tested the cable which is fine and installed the delivered LG software. I just wonder if my mobo (see my side board) doesn't support HDMI graphics? Have sent query to Gigabyte but no response yet. I'm running with DVI for now but it does seem a bit strange.

However I've decided to build a new rig over the Christmas break so I can start from scratch. I'm thinking 4770K with one of the following main boards, probaly the Z87-Deluxe but advice appreciated. I plan to keep my GPU for now but will add a SSD. A couple more questions: When using Nvidia Inspector do I have to re-apply a profile before starting FSX\after a re-boot or do the settings remain once set? For DX10 would you advise I get the recently released shader fixer which I was planning to? I just installed FTX Global btw and it looks pretty good so far.

I would really like to jump into DX10 but am apprehensive (see specs in my sig - yes it's time to upgrade). Jim, I uninstalled Alacrtiy PC btw as I couldn't get it to work. Going good with DX9 with some tweaks in particular that I picked up from a good friend, specifically... TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=2800 (yes I know that is unusual) TextureMaxLoad=9 (not really sure this does anything) TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=1800 TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=800 Since I only fly the NGX I have... TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096 ...and other settings AffinityMask=14 (hyper threading disabled in BIOS) UsePools=0 UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=30 FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.18 (still making small changes but this value seems good for me) LOD_RADIUS=4.500000 (if I go to 5 it is very noticeable on performance degradation - NGX VC) MESH_COMPLEXITY=100 MESH_RESOLUTION=23 TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=29 AUTOGEN_DENSITY=2 DETAIL_TEXTURE=1 WATER_EFFECTS=6 SWAP_WAIT_TIMEOUT=2 (I think this is default FSX but otherwise no idea what this does) I don't like to quote FPS, rather am I getting reasonable performance, but typically I get 15-30 fps (smoothish) across the board, weather, AI, airports, etc... and the NGX VC is pretty hard on FPS as we know. I've had a few good flights recently so overall pretty pleased but if I could get similar performance with DX10 then that would really be progress.

So what was it like to fly these aircraft in battle. Listen to my grandfather (the other one) talk about his experiences flying over the front during WW1. He was 19 years old. This is all I have of an interview he did in the 70's. It's possible the remaining parts of the original recording still exist somewhere.
