December 25, 201114 yr Hello ??,I think you might want to give the folks on this forum a lot more information.Operating system? Some basic specs on your computer. Cpu speed, RAM, Video card model, speed, video RAM size, size of your hard drive, etc.If possible be bit more specific on the error descripton.Did you have the XP-X demo installed? If so, did you remove it??If the demo was removed, did you then do a defrag of your computer? December 25, 201114 yr Author Hi there.Running Windows 7,quad core,GTS 250gtx...I did have the demo installed, deleted before hand, restarted PC,etc....I've since installed X Plane with the(what looks like) default scenery options,North America,Europe and Australia..I left all other scenery areas unchecked and it seems to have installed..I'm going to start it up now and see what happens..after which,i'll update to the latest version and then think about adding the rest of the scenery...Thanks for the help,
December 25, 201114 yr Author X Plane is running now with the default scenery selections installed, with the scenery present in the sim.I've just re-run the dvd installer and opted to add the rest of the scenery.Error message:I WAS UNABLE TO COPY THE FILE:EARTH NAV DATA/+00+010/+04+016.DSF FROM THE DVD TO HARD DRIVE (TOO MANY OPEN FILES IN SYSTEM)YOU CAN CONTINUE AND ATTEMPT TO REINSTALL DAMAGED FILES LATER,OR YOU CAN STOP THE INSTALLATIONI've opted to continue and not received any more of these errors.Seems peculiar to disc1,all the best, dave b:)
December 25, 201114 yr Hi Dave,Well you might want to try and see if you have some other programs open that are not necessary to your operation.Someone else that might have solved this problem hopefully will chime in, or you can ask over at any number of xplane sites that are available. If you have not tried, you might try shuttng your computer down and restarting, sometimes Windows does get confused.Looks like from you statement that your up and running. Also from what I can see about your video card, it looks like its a 512mb unit, so make sure when you set up X-plane 10 your start atminimum settings and work your way up.Here is a good link to get you started: http://www.x-plane.com/blog/2011/12/tips-for-better-frame-rates-pt-1/Chuck Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700KF CPU @ 4.90GHz 32.0 GB RAM Windows 11 Home NVIDIA RTX 3080Ti 12GB Multi monitors WD SN850 M2 2TB PSU 1000W. 360 AIO.cooling.
December 25, 201114 yr Author Thanks for the help,It is running great aside from the one install issue.I spent lots of time with the demo,so i was well versed in the ways of catching the framerate killer!!!!thanks again!p.s.just tried a reinstall of the scenery, the error is popping up on the same file every time.
December 25, 201114 yr Only thing I could think of is the file is in use by another program that you don't normally think about.Maybe XPlane didn't shut down properly and when the installer tries to copy the file in question, it tries to overwrite a locked file that isn't unlocked until the program fully exits.Another idea is that a defragger is actively moving the file between sectors on the HDD and due to the defragger having control of the file, it is currently locked. Make sure ANY live on-demand defragging is off (to inhibit the files from being moved while you're trying to copy or overwrite them).Try this. Open the DVD in your file viewer and copy the file from the DVD directory into the intended scenery folder on your HDD (if you installed XP to c:XP10, replace your DVD drive letter with the C:XP10 - e.g. D Drive is DVD drive, so "d:SceneryEarth and Nav Data+00+010/+04+016.DSF" becomes "c:XP10SceneryEarth and Nav Data+00+010/+04+016.DSF" ) and try to copy the files manually. If you still get the error, this will tell you something is buggered with the OS not allowing the file to change, which is why the installer fails with the file. Aaron
December 25, 201114 yr Author Good idea thanks.I've tried copying it to various places on my system, keep getting an error saying cannot read from source file or disk. All other files copy instantly.:)
December 26, 201114 yr Author Hi all.I found a solution,i emailed X Plane's tech support, thinking the same, that the disc was faulty.Turns out,my DVD drive doesn't quite like these discs,i tried it in my daughters computer with no problems, which copied and read the file no problem. Thanks to tech support sending me a troubleshooting sheet,i found the problem.Very helpful, especially on Christmas day!!!thanks for all the help guys!:)
December 26, 201114 yr Wow, that is impressive technical support. My hat is off to the team at Laminar.
December 27, 201114 yr Author Hi Dave,Well you might want to try and see if you have some other programs open that are not necessary to your operation.Someone else that might have solved this problem hopefully will chime in, or you can ask over at any number of xplane sites that are available. If you have not tried, you might try shuttng your computer down and restarting, sometimes Windows does get confused.Looks like from you statement that your up and running. Also from what I can see about your video card, it looks like its a 512mb unit, so make sure when you set up X-plane 10 your start atminimum settings and work your way up.Here is a good link to get you started: http://www.x-plane.c...ame-rates-pt-1/ChuckThanks for that chuck, very helpful!I love the HDR effect has on the world, but it does hurt my framrates in some areas.Shadows i can live without completely, but i have only managed to use them at low settings, which are not very smooth to look at.As it stands,i think a more recent GPU would help matters,it's HDR i like the most, and it kind of does away with the need for any water reflections at all. Amazing effect.I keep the texture resolution on high at the very most and my screen resolution low......It is a balancing act,but as of now i will have to make do without HDR or shadows...plus i bought the archer and bonanza add-ons in the sale and they totally kill my framerates with hdr on,plus show up a few weird glitches....Can't have it all!!:)
