Problems after installing SP1

Featured Replies

Just installed SP1 and now I have no USB mouse and USB Joystick. I installed a patch from MS for USB devices and SP1 but no help. If I go into the Devices menu I don't even have "mouse" listed as an option and XP does not recognize the hardware. Any ideas?Mark.

Couple of thoughts - did you disable any services recently ;)? Like human interface devices or PnP devices? If you hot plug your mouse in, does the found new hardware bubble pop up? (start windows without the mouse in, then plug it in) Start from there...Best,sg

MarkSP1 can be uninstalled using add/remove in control panel. You might try uninstalling and reinstalling (or not reinstalling). Have you tried unpluging your USB stuff for about 10 sec (with system) on then plugging them in again? Also, reversing the mouse and joystick should cause Windows to recognize them. Sounds like a simple problem. If this doesn't work someone will figure it out for you.David

I think this has to do with disabling services because windows does not recognize the devices. I think I will uninstall, enable all of the services and then reinstall again. If that works I can then go throught the tweaks again. I tried to just add back in the services but got an error.Mark.

That makes sense. I was hoping someone would come along with an easier solution. Good luck.David

I uninstalled SP1, everything back to normal. Set Human Interface Devices, Plug and Play and Universal Plug and Play to Automatic and reinstalled again but once again the mouse and joystick are not recognized. I am at a loss.

All fixed now.I just had to delete the USB items under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" and restart. They recreated themselves and all is well again.Mark.
