January 7, 201214 yr Back in November I released freeware scenery and it's only had 138 downloads. That's because I put it on a site that may not get much traffic where the individual scenery packages are posted. I can't be sure of that, but I'd bet a lot of people would like the scenery as there are few around for seaplane bases. The package is X44 Miami Seaplane Base. What my question is, is where do you scenery developers advertise that you've released something to get a good viewing. Here's the package if you want to check it out.http://aussiex.org/f...e-base-for-fsx/ Click for Miami Seaplane Base Freeware Scenery
January 7, 201214 yr Any time you upload files to the AVSIM library, it gets listed on the AVSIM opening page. Also, if it is uploaded as freeware without restrictions on distribution, it gets picked up by other website libraries. One of the best listings of available airport sceneries I have seen is www.freewarescenery.com. There is an option there to send an email toRobert-Jan Oosterloo to get your scenery link listed. Art
January 7, 201214 yr I have to agree with Art. If you want exposure for your addon, then it doesn't make much sense to place it on a web site that is not well visited. Avsim and Flightsim, Simflight, and a few others are where you should be.Also, you can simply prepare a press release with an announcement of your addon and all the major web sites will be happy to publicize it.Best regards.LuisBy the way, it looks very good, at least in the dark, and I imagine, even better in the day. Congratulations and good work! Edited January 7, 201214 yr by LuisFelizTirado Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
January 11, 201214 yr Now that I am aware of this I will check it out. I have been doing freeware scenery for a long time and I stick to the two more active sites listed above. I have found that downloads will mostly depend on the location and how it relates to other commercial packages such as GEX, UT, and that other commercial site that's been in the news lately. My fs2004 Mt Rainier scenery was a huge hit because of the work and detail that was put into it and the location, location, location.Good luck with your future projects. January 12, 201214 yr Also, your scenery is of a small, obscure seaplane base, so it might not attract a lot of attention. According to Airnav, it averages 37 flights per week. So, this might not register on a lot of peoples radar. There's nothing wrong with that. You've designed a scenery project around an airport that interests you and you've decided to share it. Don't be discouraged by the fact that other people have different interests than you. My site: www.martinstrong.com/FS_Project.htm
March 17, 201214 yr Author Thanks for the replies. I suppose it is a bit more obscure, I just figured seaplane aficionados would be all over it. Maybe they are few and far between. After four moths the scenery has had 198 Downloads, so that's okay I guess. I told the host of my file that I wanted it to be posted there, maybe I'll post it at Avsim. I also contacted the Freewarescenery.com guy with no response sadly, but I just tried again, so hopefully he picks up my scenery. I mostly advertise it at FSEconomy in their forums. I assume most of the downloads come from there. Click for Miami Seaplane Base Freeware Scenery
March 19, 201214 yr maybe I'll post it at Avsim Always post it at Avsim. This is the main FS website. I'm not sure if flightsim.com gets more visitors or not, but my scenery gets 3 times as many downloads at Avsim than it does at the other site. So, this is the place to upload it, for sure.
