January 9, 201214 yr I have just tried to use Radar Contact 4 for the first time but all I get is an error message "IPC timed out all retries"!What is IPC?
January 9, 201214 yr Commercial Member make sure you have the latest version of fsuipc. link is pinned to the top of the forumalso make sure fs is running, plane at the gate, clock on the panel ticking, when you click the start rc button in the rc appif that doesn't help, make a log, instructions pinned to the top of the forumjd JD Read my blog
January 10, 201214 yr Thank you jd.I had the latest fscuip so no prob there.I decided to try again placing the aircraft on a default airport stand. Yesterday I was on stand on the UK 2000 Extreme EGCC stand. I also was on stand with engines off so I tried leaving the engines on.It worked but surprisingly I had to input my reg key when I started RC again using Administrator. Does any of this make sense? Could it just be by not starting RC as Administrator I caused the problem?Only other prob I could see was that the controller sound seemed to fade in and out.

Could it just be by not starting RC as Administrator I caused the problem? You should not need to run anything (except installers) "as administrator". I never do. But if you run FS "as administator" then every other program interfacing to it via FSUIPC on the same PC must also be run 'as administrator'. The problem is that Windows does not allow programs at different priority levels to talk to each other.RegardsPete Edited January 10, 201214 yr by Pete Dowson Win10: 22H2 19045.2728 CPU: 9900KS at 5.5GHz Memory: 32Gb at 3800 MHz. January 10, 201214 yr Thanks PeteI normally start FSX via Active Sky Evolution which I would have started as Administrator. Generally most programmes I have seem to recommend them to be run as Administrator especially FSX that's why I have always done it that way. Thanks for taking the time I really appreciate it!
January 11, 201214 yr Commercial Member I normally start FSX via Active Sky Evolution which I would have started as Administrator. Generally most programmes I have seem to recommend them to be run as Administrator especially FSX that's why I have always done it that way. It's because many add-on programs don't take the trouble to change the folder read/write permissions on the FS cfolders they may need to access. FSUIPC makes the Modules folder read/write. The problems only arise in any case if you allow FS to install in its default place, in 'Program Files'. Windows Vista and Win7 both protect all Program Files folders against being written to, and even prevents reading the real data, providing aliassed folders to view instead. The situation is actually worse for FS9 which itself needs to write to its own folders and might be prevented! At least FSX keeps its changing data elsewhere. The best solution all round is always to install FS in its own folders elsewhere, even on a separate disk altogether. I always have FS9 in a top level folder called FS9, and similarly FSX in FSX. Makes life so much simpler!RegardsPete Win10: 22H2 19045.2728 CPU: 9900KS at 5.5GHz Memory: 32Gb at 3800 MHz.
