January 9, 201214 yr I just started using VATSIM for the first time about a week now and I am constantly dealing with frame rate issues. My fps will stick around 15-20 while in the air and on land it drops to about 1-3 fps. In other words it's just not worth using with these framerates. I have my FPS rate set to unlimited inside FSX and I'm using the fps_limiter_2 and have my fps set to 40. I live in San Antonio, Texas and I have tried both server usa west and usa east with no luck. I am using Squawkbox to connect to VATSIM. Any ideas?Specs:OS: Win 7 64bitCPU: i7 970 @ 4.0GhzMemory: 12g tripple channel DDR3GPU: EVGA Nvidia Geforce GTX 570Internet Speed:Down: 9.74 MbpsUp: 1.48 MbpsThanks.. Dustin Baker

That should boost your framerate back to normal levels.
January 13, 201214 yr Author Open up Squawkbox options, select multiplayer, and set the multiplayer aircraft refresh rate to maybe 3... That should boost your framerate back to normal levels. Thanks for the help Benorg, but that wasn't the issue... And to be honest I'm not sure as to what the issue actually was, but I got everything back up and running better than I have ever. I did a reformat on my how computer and just started from scratch with everything. After spending about $700 on cockpit hardware (Saitek Pro Flight Gear), I figured it would be worth the hassle. Needs less to say I am currently getting over 100 FPS on VATSIM now. Everything looks a heck of a lot better than it has. I am just curious if I should drop my FPS rate down from unlimited to 60 FPS. I mean our eyes can only see like 30 something FPS, I believe... Anyway, everything is good now. :() Dustin Baker

Anyway, everything is good now. :()People tend to have different views on what you should set your FPS too and I guess results will vary depending on your rig, add-ons, etc. Some pilots have it at unlimited and others have it locked at a certain frame rate saying that by locking it down, it frees up resources to provide more autogen, etc.I have mine locked at 38 FPS. My FSX is very smooth and I have lots of eye candy.Try loading up a flight at the same airport and play with your FPS settings. You will eventually find that "sweet spot" for your PC and settings.
