Ok, I think I can live with 2530, I'll give it a go. Wound the clock back today and all good with Prime95 and my temps are right down, max 86c on torture (and 70 in FSX) and it's been friggin hot here the last few days!. Bought a new toy today, check my sig. Looking at your sig I'm not surprised you're getting smooth performance...jealous. :( Time to start thinking about a new rig - what would you go for if you had the money? Now there's an idea for a topic.
Hi Tom, what would I go for if I had the money? well, to be honest, I think with a rig like mine and many others with similar setups, there comes a point where the amount of cash that you throw at things no longer justifies the return, I'm talking about perfomance here, not hardware stuff. I'm almost at a point in FSX where I am very happy with the results. What I would now invest in if I had the money, and I hope this is my next upgrade, is a three monitor setup and a PFC Saab yoke http://flypfc.com/?/products/yokes/cirrus-saab-yoke/ with PFC throttle quadrant. Maybe when the world gets back on track and people start spending money I will then get some work!!

Howard, you need to come down under and work in mining - loads of $$$. I was thinking more in terms of CPUs actually and how things might pan out this year with the LGA 2011 chipsets and the IvyBridge. Got the X52 going last night - more buttons than... (now I could say something a little riskay here but I won't) ....a lot anyway. It will take a little getting used to. I'd really like to know how to set buttons for zoom inout when in external lockedspot views? Seems to work fine in the VC and overwing views.

Hi Tom, sure, there are a lot of excited guys waiting for the Ivy Bridge and sure, I guess it will be a natural upgrade , but how much performance it will return... we will have to wait and see. One thing is for sure, I won't be one of the first to get it, I will wait in the wings until the fervour has died down, along with the prices :wink:You got the Saitek x52, I ran with that for about 12 months until it was replaced with my Warthog :( mmmm. Anyway, as for the x52, sure, out of all the average controllers I would say IMHO it is without doubt one of the best at that sort of price. As for your zooming, mmm, the entry you are looking for is nothing to do with zoom, or zoom out, zoom in, nothing quite so obvious I'm afraid. You need to go to your settings and click controls, then buttons keys, and look for SELECTION DECREASE and SELECTION INCREASE. It took me forever to find this!! Then simply assign the buttons in the way you would like. I have my zoom in and zoom out (selection increase and decrease) assigned to a small switch on my controller so I can just move my thumb and zoom in or out at will. I had the same setup with the X52. Let me know how you get on.

Howard, I think you are right and we're probably into diminishing returns in terms of CPU performance and FSX. I may do a staged rebuild starting with case and cooling but I'm sure it's not worth sticking with the LGA 1366 chipset as I'd then be looking at (tops) an i7 990x ($1,139), almost a custom stainless bow rail and bait table for the boat! Haven't looked at the selection set yet and off to Goolwa SA on Sunday for two weeks. A 9-10 hour drive with boat and two dogs....just down the road for us really. Fishing not Flying! Lots of White Pointers down there. :(

That's a walk in the park. Drove down to Wonthaggi after work last night...two hours down, two hours back. I did Perth to Melbourne towing the boat in '07 on my own, 3500km - 4 days, but I wouldn't recommend it. You get used to the distances when you live here. Selection IncreaseDecrease, I never would have found that, I'll have to send you some Scrumpy!

As I said :( lol. Glad you found the selection increase/decrease. Strange why MS couldn't have used the word ZOOM, it would make it easier for us all, I'm sure. As for ther scrumpy... only if it has rats in it, lol.
