February 22, 200422 yr Hi, I was wondering what the pros and cons of terrain mesh are. I have never downloaded any mesh before. Does it look bad where the mesh begins and ends or does it make a smooth transition.
February 22, 200422 yr yeah, you can't stop wondering just how bad it looks on the side of the border that has no mesh.:)
February 23, 200422 yr Pro: It looks simply awesome the parts that will have the mesh in terms of ground shaping and mountains. No it wont clash or look bad where it ends/begins.Cons: Nothing really, unless you are on a dialup you might have to wait long to get it downloaded many of the mesh packages are huge, above 100 MB.
February 23, 200422 yr There's a couple other cons, or at least things to be aware of:1. You need to play around with the sliders/cfg terrain controls to get a good display. There are trade-offs required.2. Airports are forced to be flat, even if they are not IRL. With the higher detail mesh, this can cause cliffs at the end of the airport where the airport elevation has to transition to the mesh elevation.3. Terrain elements laid on the ground (like rivers) may no longer follow the mesh correctly.scott s..
February 23, 200422 yr Author there are some occasional anamolies as others have been pointed out when add on mesh and original mesh conflict. But, those are fairly minor quibbles when you consider the illusion of depth good mesh can offer. If you want to see some of the best new mesh, do a search for the author, Robert Gainer...he has some new washington, oregon, montana mesh that looks great...but, I especially like his mesh for the NE u.s...don' recall it's exact name, but both of these were uploaded to the avsim library last week.Sherm
