Jan 24, 2012 Solar Flare

Featured Replies

According to a NASA report, on Jan 24, 2013, the Sun emitted a gigantic solar flare (largest since 2003) that blasted Earth at 15:00 UTC.Did any RW pilots notice comms abnormalities (e.g. VHF skip, GPS outages) around that time?(Hot!) Solar Flares Video:

Cheers,- jahman.

At around 10:30AM and at 9,000', my headset went crazy with a tone that nearly made me go deaf. The "interference" lasted for about 2-3 minutes. Eventually, after toggling my active noise cancelling off and then back on several times, the issue went away. Later I was telling the airport manager about my headset malfunction, and he insisted it must have been the solar flare. Spooky, but I think it's coincidence.

Yeah it sucked. I was flying between KSFF and KSEE and it got us several times. I also remember one back a few years ago that also did the same thing with comms.
