Fsx won't start anymore

Featured Replies

Hello Captains.I had to reinstall fsx yesterday. Everything went well did the install as per NickN.Installed the RTM and started fsx, everything was OK.Installed SP1 started fsx, everything was OK.Installed SP2 started fsx and got this error message: This graphic card does not meet minimum requirements for shader support. This product requires a geforce3/radeon8500 class or better graphics card, Flight simulator will exit now.My graphics card is an EVGA GTX580 so its far better than what fsx needs.Win7 is up to date, latest nvidia driver is installed.Any help would be appreciated.Laszlo

Nvidia has done something very wrong with drivers ever since the 280 series came out, and there is evidence it may be some before that. A large group of Geforce users..ALL series of gpu's are having "issues' with these drivers and particularly Win 7 installations. I recenlty pulled a new EVGA 560ti out and replaced it with a Radeon card because of it.

I think this is a separate issue. The OP's problem has been around since 2007 when FSX SP2 first came out. Unlike RTM and SP1, SP2 (and/or FSX Acceleration) requires hardware vertex shader support...if the DX/driver combo isn't detecting/reporting the correct shader engine presence, then this happens.

Agree with Bob,

  1. Reinstall Direct X9, or at least check in; dxdiag ie.type in run box, look under display section to make sure direct 3d and direct draw are enabled.
  2. Do a clean install of video drivers, remove old ones etc.

I have been using 275.33 and since there have been no improvements made for FSX since, no point in upgrading, and I have never had any issues with Nvidia cards and Win 7 +FS. If It ain't broke.........

One major improvement made in the 280+ driver versions is the driver-integrated frame rate limiter that can be configured with nVidiainspector. I think having the frame rate limiter built into the driver is a major deal, especially since it now allows rate limiting together with use of the ENB series lighting control.

yes, your right, but I have tried the 280+ etc. and tested, didn't see any performance improvement in FSX at all.but then, every system is different.Ron.
