February 1, 201214 yr This month I purchased two planes through the AVSIM store, the Bushhawk and the Quest Kodiak. I have loaded these planes on a Windows Vista system and a Windows 7 system. Neither planes work. The exterior of the planes appear invisible. I understand from some forums that it may be a problem with Microsoft Directx. They tell you to go back to Directx 9. That's not ppossible in Windows 7 because I'm told the function is now embedded in the system. But After complaining to the AVSIM store twice for help I get NOTHING. When I emailed them the first time I had two problems, they replied to one and ignored the invisible airplane problem. The second time with only that problem listed they never returned my email. Are these planes being sold knowing that they won't work in either of the two most recent version of windows? Would you pay $29 for an airplane that all you see is a cockpit and a propeller? Is there a fix for this problem? Why no help?Frustrated
February 1, 201214 yr You "still" are not in the correct forum, IMO. I'd head down to the FSX or Hardware forum and get some assistance there. You're wanting to blame Avsim for selling faulty products, but at least in my case the Quest Kodiak works fine on Win7, as it did on my Win XP64 setup. There can be video driver, config settings, etc that can turn airplanes into tangled pieces of metal. That is a system-specific problem and is (generally) easily diagnosed and recommendations made to get you flying.
February 2, 201214 yr Why don't you contact the publishers of these? I can attest that the Kodiak works great on a Win7 machine (see my specs below). Missing textures are usually associated with insufficient available memory in the GPU. Obviously we are not aware of any issues with these two products, or we would have heard more than one complaint.
February 2, 201214 yr Could be a permissions thing with both operating systems, ensure User Account Control (UAC) is disabled, I would also recommend that you right click on the installer and "Run as administrator." See if that resolves your issue.Best of luck. \Robert Hamlich/
March 11, 201214 yr "...The second time with only that problem listed they never returned my email..."Seems like one of the original problems is still a problem, only reading one part of the problem and ignoring the rest. While the issue with the aircraft mentioned maybe a dev issue - the failure of the AVSIM Store to apparently reply in an appropriate way (or at all) is definitely an AVSIM Store problem wouldn't you think, regardless of whether that practice is a widely used one (at least here in the US) by most companies who don't like negative comments ?wombat457
