Prop governing on take off

Featured Replies

FolksI'm not sure if it's the driver or the plane. With the taps open for take off the rpm go to about 2800, which is a couple of hundred over red line. I've never flown a Baron, and not flown a similar twin for years and can't remember that detail, so not sure it that's right or not. Seems not. To stay under red line, I have to have the MP around 23". Any advice from people with more twin time than me?Also, should I be able to find a patch for the AP, so that I can set the rate of climb or descent?CheersMike Dryden

It's OK to be at max power during take off, but once you reach around 400 or 500 feet, you should pull the prop RPM's down to 2500 rpms with the two blue prop levers (CTRL and F2 on the keyboard) for the rest of the climb. As for the throttles.. You typically leave those at wide open (full forward) unless you don't plan to be above 5000 feet, at which point you want to keep it at 25 " of MFP.
