February 6, 201214 yr Hi Guys , Newbe to flight sim. I have a copy of 2004 - Can anybody tell me if it will work with a 64bit/Win7 computer???
February 6, 201214 yr Yes it does, and very well. A few things to be aware of before installing though: Do NOT install FS9 in the (any) programs folder, but make a separate dedicated folder for it. Second: Turn UAC (User Account Control) off during installation. Somewhere on this forum (if I recall well in the Windows 7 section) is a guideline, written by the sadly passed away Opa, but these are the most important precautions.Regards,René René Bongers
February 8, 201214 yr Hello ColtraneSince you are on a Win7 64 OS I am assuming you have more than 2Gb memory,so there is also another mod to improve FS9 performance. which entails modifying theexecutable so that it can handle a larger amount of memory, i.e. 2Gb+Download Explorer Suite - http://www.ntcore.com/exsuite.php - Then install.Make a back-up copy of FS9.exeStart CFF Explorer and open FS9.exe - once opened Go to top menus and select:NT Header/File Header thenFile Header and click on button named "Click here" thenSelect and tick "App can handle> 2gb adressest "Save FS9.exe and overwrite original (reason why you made an earlier back-up) Joaquin Blanco Intel Core i9-9900K at 5Ghz, Corsair Hydro H100i RGB PLATINUM CPU cooler, Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E,Motherboard, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super 8GB GDDR6, G.Skill Trident Z RGB 32GB DDR4 3200MHz Memory, 500GB Samsung 970 EVO PLUS M.2 PCIe,2TB Samsung 860 QVO Solid State Drive, 2TB, 2 x Samsung 860 Evo 2TB, 1 x 1TB Samsung 860 Evo, Corsair RM650x 80 PLUS Gold 650W PSU.
February 9, 201214 yr Hello ColtraneSince you are on a Win7 64 OS I am assuming you have more than 2Gb memory,so there is also another mod to improve FS9 performance. which entails modifying theexecutable so that it can handle a larger amount of memory, i.e. 2Gb+Download Explorer Suite - http://www.ntcore.com/exsuite.php - Then install.Make a back-up copy of FS9.exeStart CFF Explorer and open FS9.exe - once opened Go to top menus and select:NT Header/File Header thenFile Header and click on button named "Click here" thenSelect and tick "App can handle> 2gb adressest "Save FS9.exe and overwrite original (reason why you made an earlier back-up)as far as i know, it is for windows 32 bit OS as i also applied it before migrating to win 7 months ago, while for 64bit OS i use 4GB patch.
February 9, 201214 yr One set of instructions allows you to make Windows see more than 3Gb RAMThe other to allow FS9.exe to see more than 2Gb address space. They are totallyseparate and mutually exclusive.FS9.exe under Win7 64 still runs as an 32bit application and unless you modify itto enable it to handle more than 2Gb address it will remain limited to that, regardlessof any OS you install.Regards Joaquin Blanco Intel Core i9-9900K at 5Ghz, Corsair Hydro H100i RGB PLATINUM CPU cooler, Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E,Motherboard, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super 8GB GDDR6, G.Skill Trident Z RGB 32GB DDR4 3200MHz Memory, 500GB Samsung 970 EVO PLUS M.2 PCIe,2TB Samsung 860 QVO Solid State Drive, 2TB, 2 x Samsung 860 Evo 2TB, 1 x 1TB Samsung 860 Evo, Corsair RM650x 80 PLUS Gold 650W PSU.
February 9, 201214 yr Any install guides for FS9 at all guys similar to Nick N's guide? Wayne http://fs2crew.com/banners/Banner_FS2Crew_MJC_Supporter.png Wayne HART
February 10, 201214 yr Any install guides for FS9 at all guys similar to Nick N's guide? WayneAfter you install FS9 the patch must be run inside FS9 root directory, otherwise FS9 willnot be completely patched.Nick's guide for FSX under Win7 can also be applied in many respects, particularly how to improvethe OS, defrag, etc. Certain areas are exclusive to FSX such as;ShadersWideViewAspectDisablePreloadBufferpoolsAffinity MaskAs regards the fs9.cfg file, there are many posts here in Avsim with many examples.
