  1. Thanks for sharing such an informative video.
  2. Post the contents of your scenery.cfg so we can examine it.
  3. Thanks very much, will look into it. Regards
  4. I would like to record on my videos the pilot/atc transmissions while on Vatsim, I use a program called Bandicam to record the video, this program also records the sound and has setting options for Primary and Secondary Audio devices. As far as headsets go I have USB headset and an old analogue type with green and red plugs. Despite trying a few things I've not been able to record any of the sound received via the headset whether spoken by the Controller or me. Advice from someone who has managed to get this to work or any links where I can find out more, would be much appreciated.
  5. Mike Thank you for the information, didn't realise you could do that. Will look into it. Regards
  6. I purchased GSX and seems to work OK on v3, however one thing I find very annoying is when it tells me my parking is not big enough to provide me with ground services, when in fact the aircraft is parked at a heavy gate or cargo that is used in real life by such aircraft. So no ability to pushback, etc, etc. - Another issue is that a large number of gates and parking areas are missing at major airports and therefore one cannot use the follow me vehicle to guide you to the desired parking. My verdict 5 out of 10.
  7. System Images are used by IT professionals to quickly install Operating Systems and can be applied to Simulator installations too. All it requires is applying some thought as to what needs to be included in them, Pretty straight forward really. You know what they say.... "you can take a horse to water but you cannot make him drink".
  8. Whenever there is a new version of P3D out I do a clean install of the Operating System with the relevant Windows updates, and any other software that I need. Then I install P3D and activate it. When you are done and assuming you have P3D installed in your C:\ drive, create a system image. If P3D is installed on a separete drive then create a System Image and a separate image to include all your P3D folders. - If for any reason you have problems and need to rebuild the system at a later stage all you have to do is load the System Image followed by the P3D image (if the sim is on a second drive). Reinstalling the OS and P3D via images is a very quick process and will avoid the long and tedious standard reinstall. Regards
  9. I had a serious issue caused by the tool which required a full reinstall of P3D some time back, having said that I have used it successfully on a few occasions on v3.3.5 without any problems, mind you I always uninstall it after each use. Still touching wood.......
  10. I had a lot of screen tearing and solved it by turning on Aero on my Win 7 64 OS. No tearing since. Assuming of course you are on Win7 not sure if similar exists in Win 8 or Win 10.
  11. Moving on with the times..... I think that from now on we will have to ask before buying whether or not a scenery developer is commited to support P3D though its development, after all they should all know by now that this platform is still in constant development. What we need to avoid are developers who will sell you a product that works only in one or two versions of the sim but will not bother to update as and when new and better changes begin to appear. We have the power of our wallets and if no assurances are forthcoming well then.....just don't buy from them. We need commitment and good quality products to match P3D don't waste your time with low quality products not fit for this sim. We will soon be able to separate the wheat from the chaff.
  12. When I decided to switch to Prepar3D it was with full knowledge that this simulator would undergo further development and that at various points in time some things such as sceneries or aircraft would just not work or would be subject to further changes. I do not regret this decision and I am quite happy to report any issues to developers in the hope they will get fixed, but if that is not the case also quite happy to abandon for good those particular items and the vendors responsible for not wanting to update their products to suit the Prepar3D platform. In the end there will always be someone who will be ready to take up the opportunity to develop and update products for this platform. We just have to be patient. Let us not get angry by the various temporary difficulties we experience everytime there is a new version release. Be content that we will at some point in the not too distant future have the best simulator in the market. Please forget any disagreements and be happy.
  13. +1 on clouds, have experienced overcast with REX Textures direct and Soft Clouds with a coef setting of .7 - Some issues with ground textures not displaying correctly in some airports like those of UK2000 but this is likely to be resolved by Devs in the near future.
  14. So far I have installed and tested Aerosoft Anchorage, Taxi2Gate MMMX and KSEA and FSDreamteam KMEM and all working well. Issues with UK2000 ground textures and I understand Gary is already looking in this with a way to fix. Otherwise P3D look incredible and haven't had any other issues.
  15. You can also press F9 at any time to return to the VC.
  16. I did a clean install of v3.3.3 last night and had no issues. However upon loading the default aircraft and scenery had a blank screen followed by a slow load of all scenery and textures, which I then sped-up by rotating the hat switch in 360 degree turns five times or so and that settled the scenery. Not had a chance to to test any payware airports by UK2000, Aerosoft, etc but will do so this evening and will report if I encounter any issues.
  17. I think you need to install FSX-SP2-XPACK as a minimum, I have never installed the ESP version.
  18. Just wanted to add that removing Precipitfx and having 777 & 737 packages installed brought back full effects on those aircraft and default contrails for other installed aircraft.
  19. Very recently rebuilt my sim PC with P3D v3.2 and can now confirm as follows: First installed the 777 package and all effects and contrails worekd fine. Thereafter installed the 737 package and all also working fine, then installed PrecipitFX and now no contrails and no effects on any aircraft. The main reason why I rebuilt was due to this same thing happening in my last installation and no fix found to solve it. Very disappointed by the lack or an explanation from developer on how this can be avoided.and thinking of binning the software altogether.
  20. There are certain sceneries that cannot be installed (not advisable?) outside P3D, such as FTX Global, Vectors, etc. However most other sceneries can be installed outside, even those that during installation may place files in the main scenery or world folders. I have a dedicated 3Tb drive for sceneries where I have created folders with relevant country names to which sceneries are installed as required. Some sceneries won't install unless Prepar3d.exe is present so a copy of this executable is placed in the root folder of this disk. Take an Aerosoft scenery which under normal circumstances would be added to the Aerosoft folder, and let's say it's Barcelona. I will install it directly into the Spain folder and it would look like this: E:\Sceneries\Spain\Aerosoft\MegaAirport Barcelona\scenery+texture+additionafiles folders. Same method for any other sceneries for different countries. Some sceneries in addition to creating the standard scenery/texture folders may also install other files to main scenery/world folders or others, in such cases they will be installed to the country folder and any files relating to other folders meant for P3D can easily be identified and copied to the Sim directories, including effects. The extra files I keep in the additionalfiles folder inside each scenery (when applicable) thus in the event a reinstall of the sim is required all I have to do is copy those files again to the relevant folders in P3D and have no need to reinstall the sceneries. My standard scenery.cfg file that contains the P3D default areas (and in my case FTX Vector and FTX Lanclass and Orbx Libraries entries) in the Program Data\LockheedMartin\Prepard3d folder is where I add/remove sceneries using the Scenery Configuration Editor ensuring any entries are above the base entries in this config. The SCE can then renumber all entries in the scenery.cfg and have only those sceneries needed for my flight. Granted that it takes a while to build this scenery system but it is a great time saver and you can always check very quickly which sceneries you have installed for any given country. From time to time I make a disk image as back-up. Just recently I had to rebuild my Sim PC due to a problem with contrails and other effects not appearing. Installed Win7 64 with full updates and P3D base installation (including FTX Global/Vector/LCs using a previously created image in minutes. Installed the aircraft and within the hour was ready to fly. I appreciate some users may find this confusing, but have been using this method since FS9 days without issues or having to restart the sim after adding entries to it. I'm not the best at explaining these sort of things but feel free to ask if you don't understand something I mentioned above. Regards
  21. Quite willing to help anyone wanting to learn how to use FSInn on Vatsim, so feel free to ask. There are a couple of tools you can use to ensure that most of your AI is recognised by FSInn. One is called AC_ICAO 53 which when run will check all your AI and create the correct registry entries on the sim. This tool was created to fix in part the now defunct aircraft repository. In addition there is also a tool that will extract all the registry entries created by the above mentioned tool which you can then install on a remote PC if you are using FSInn in network mode. If you cannot find these tools let me know and I will put them in dropbox for download.
  22. Please disregard this post. It's all my fault, it's getting really late here in the UK and not thinking straight, apologies for the inconvenience. Kind regards
