February 9, 201214 yr Good morning,I was wondering if its possible to do a RNAV/GPS approach using the stock Carenado GPS installed? I know you can select some approaches using the 430 (out of date which is no problem), but how do you set the AP to continue with a selected GPS RWY28 (for example) approach?ThanksGmac
February 9, 201214 yr Should work the same way as flying the enroute part via GPS. So the G500 CDI should be magenta and read GPS and the AP should be in NAV. But you will only get LNAV with this, no vertical guidance or path.
February 10, 201214 yr Author Thanks Cool. One more quick question. I have a GPS route (enroute) active and ATC give me RV for the GPS approach. I ask for a RV to the IAF and ATC gives me the vector. I then select the corresponding GPS approach, but a few of the enroute fixes still show active. How do I move down the flight plan and select the IAF and then fly the approach. What seems to be happening is the AP will "back track" to the "enroute" fixes and then to the IAF.Gmac
February 10, 201214 yr If there isn't a dedicated 'activate approach' menu entry when pressing PROC, perhaps use the direct-to feature of the GPS unit. I haven't flown the default ones for a long time now, so I may be thinking RXP already. Please note that bliksimpie offers some enhanced default GPS units here. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/360848-adjusted-gps-530-and-430-for-pa46/ Maybe that's another nice option for you.
February 10, 201214 yr Author Thanks again Cool. I will keep messing around with it.....was thinking the same thing of doing the direct to. BTW....have bilksimpie's mods and they are excellent!!Cheers,Gmac
February 10, 201214 yr Which is another great example of how an active community can enhance products for free, huh? Carenado should be very thankful for the three guys with the B in the name. :( I hope they are.
February 10, 201214 yr Quick follow up question if I may - if you use the D function to get to the FAF let's say, bypassing the WP's that now are irrelevant (as described by Gmac580), what then? Once you arrive at the D To waypoint, the aircraft will start to circle at that point, will it not? Would you have to keep adding D To's from that point on for each new waypoint, or will the unit pick up the flight plan from that next WP onward? Thanks - glad someone asked this as this has been a sticking point for me :).
February 10, 201214 yr Glenn, you may be right when it comes to the default gauges. They may drop all other things when you use direct-to. As said, me is on RXP, so my memory didn't serve me well it seems. But, I think that highlighting the IAF waypoint, then pressing menu and 'activate this leg' may lead to some bearing information for you. You then fly it, arrive at the waypoint and the GPS continues on the following ones. Should work. Again, that's from memory.
