System interrupts causing pc slowdowns VERY frustrating

Featured Replies

Wrong forum probably .Please move if you want.A.I have developed over the last four months or so this very irritating problem with system interrupts.I use a program called process explorer that allows you to monitor these interrupts as a red graph. This graph on start up is usually low or non-existent ,however after some minutes (10-15 approx) this graph climbs until it is basically 100percent at this point the PC is just about unusable (mouse sticks lags, typing characters in a forum for instance results in delays before they are displayed etc etc etc )just dammed irritating.I have tried ALL suggestions to no avail.UNIN AND REIN hardware.updated all driversmade sure drives are DME not PIOHave systematically turned of hardwareuninstalled USB ,REIN USBHave checked internet ,lots of waffle but no clear ideas (as per usual)Sometimes the only way is to turn of PC(that however doesn't always work either)have installed programs that tell you that you have the problem ,but offer no suggestions as to how to fix it.If i run FS9 sometimes when the flight has loaded the frames will be very low 2-3 ,after some time however especially if i change views or sometimes if i just wait, the frames will suddenly leap back to normal (20) in my case and then all is fine again. If anybody has any idea what if anything can be done to resolve this dammed irritating problem i would most appreciate it.REIN XP not option have no copy.Andy

I saw a problem like this a long time ago...I think it was a problem with my sound card and/or drivers that caused it. As I recall, I uninstalled the drivers, then removed the sound device in the device manager, then rebooted and let Windows reinstall both the device and drivers. A simple driver install didn't do the job.If you have a video card with HD audio, you also might try disabling that audio device. You might also try running the free DPC latency checker (d/l at www.thesycon.com) -- if you have big spikes in DPC latency, you can try disabling devices one at a time to find the offender (generally audio, LAN, or USB device related)

Thanks BobI already have DPC latency checker ,it tells me I have a problem (which of course I know already) but nothing beyond it could be a misbehaving driver or suchlike ,no other help fixing it .As to your suggestion about the the sound card/device I have already tried that ,but with no joy.PS As i type this reply I can already see the process explorer red graph climbing (interrupts 94%) and the characters taking longer to appear ,mouse also lagging .REALLY annoying.! Thanks for your help though.cheers Andy

Well, if shutting down the USB ports and sound devices and driver reinstalls didn't help, it could be a hardware problem developing on a required hardware component. If you have or can borrow a spare video card, you might try swapping that out to see if that's the offending device. Otherwise, it might point to an integrated controller on the mobo, like a SATA controller. If your mobo has multiple HDD controllers (many do), you could also try moving the SATA cable to another device and reconfiguring the BIOS.

Make sure your BIOS and system drivers are all up-to-date, as well as your MSVC and .NET Runtimes (these last two via Windows Update.)Cheers,- jahman.

Drivers are all up to date (not sure about bios ,reluctant to mess with that ) Net runtimes ( MSVC?) i assume are OK as I check most days with Windows update using the custom option ,and most times there are no updates to install. Not sure how this situation arose ,I can only hope that in that wonderful mysterious way of the modern PC it eventually resolves itself somehow.Strangely as i type this message the process explorer window (this shows the dreaded interrupts graph, is completely clear) showing NO activity at all .Its THAT sort of perplexing problem.Anyways on the plus side I have eventually got to spell interrupts correctly without having correct it with the spell checker.(Every interrupted cloud has a silver lining) On the rather negative side however over the last few months i have become neurotically obsessed with watching that PExplorer window bottom right of screen as it starts to glow malevolently RED ! and my PC shudders to a crawl.cheers Andy

Well, you really should update your BIOS, and as I mentioned, also your MB system drivers (not updated via Windows Update).Cheers,- jahman.
