February 14, 201214 yr I'm absolutely gutted... I think I might've totally messed up FSX on my new PC.This morning I tried to open up FSX after just installing AI Timeout Patcher and changing the settings to around 10 mins for timeout, but it froze on the splash screen and CTD, no matter what I tried, I couldn't fix it. So eventually, after trying to see if it was a corrupted logbook or .cfg, neither of which was the cause, I decided to reinstall FSX (by that time I was already fuming).I uninstalled all of my aircraft addons (but not WoAI, just realised that...), then I took FSX out through Add or Remove Programs, not through the disk (stupidly, perhaps). I thought it'd gone fine, so I deleted any remaining FSX files, AppData etc (not the whole folder tree ofc, just the FSX part) and then proceeded to install FSX. But, instead of the setup screen having "install" as the main option, it's as if FSX is still installed; it's got the repair or remove options. I tried both, repair looks as if it's going to reinstall everything; it does the normal procedure (disk 1, then disk 2), but right at the end, it asks me to "insert disk:" and leaves the part after ":" blank. Not good. And remove comes up with an error.I'm close to giving up with it, I feel like there's nothing I can do, having searched the interweb and only seen pessimistic results. I can't believe I just spent £900 on a computer and got FSX running so well, and now it doesn't work at all. Please, PLEASE help if you can! Will.
February 14, 201214 yr Ah. The old re-install FSX issue! I love when it does that to me.I used Windows Installer Cleanup last year when I had this with an FSX re-install: http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459The latest fiasco was cleared up with a normal uninstall followed by CCleaner's registry cleaner. Try both. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules

February 14, 201214 yr WillAs Zach says +1.There's also a great program called 'REVO Uninstaller' which will remove all traces of an FSX install which as you have found out doesn't like reinstalling. There's a trial version so it costs nothing to try it and it is very effective and itg will also clear junk files off your computer like CC Cleaner does.Hope you get this sortedPeterH

February 14, 201214 yr Twas me second and then came Jahman!benorg,This is off topic but I noticed your system build is very similar to mine. (see below). Just wondering if you would be willing to share info about FSX config tweaks, FSX settings - scenery complexity, traffic, weather, etc.you are using.Still trying to hit that sweet spot with FSX. I have UTX, GEX, REX and lots of ORBX scenery installed. Using nvidia inspector - fps limted to 30. I get good consistent frame rates but the smoothness is just not quite right. If you feel you can help would sure like to hear back from you. Feel free to PM me, can give you my direct email if you like.Thanks,-edPROCESSOR: Intel i7 2600K 3.4 ghz - OC 4.8ghzMOTHERBOARD: Asus P8P67 DeluxeVIDEO: EVGA GTX 580HDD: (2) Crucial 128GB SSD, (OS/FSX), WD 1.0 TB, RAM: 16 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600
