Very dissapointed with "Real"Scene Landclass 2004

Hi Jimmi.Importing landclass from the Olson dataset can replace the default worldlc.bgl... and it doesn't look that bad. MS has altered the data to include more urban areas, and has increased the forest areas. That was obviously done with masking through a GIS program. I'm sure none of the default worldlc.bgl was hand-tweaked. Justin has used a different dataset for his FSGenesis US landclass, so his results are different. And Justin has hand tweaked the data as reports come to him from eye witnesses. If you think an area needs more work, just e-mail Justin with the argument and evidence, and he probably will include the change in a future update. That's why he has had all the revisions.FS2000, CFS2, FS2002 and FS9 have all had slightly different worldlc.bgls, so it is an ongoing process. But, I can't believe MS would spend much time on this... just as they didn't spend much time on mesh or LWM/VTP updates from FS2002. Just plop the raw data into a program, and out comes the BGLs. If they use the same data from FS2002, it will look the same in FS9. If they add data (as in the case of some mesh for FS9 ) the outcome will be different... hopefully improved.MS actually invented the terrain.cfg settings to lower the mesh under streams, and flatten the mesh under roads and rails, to compensate for their lack of effort to improve the datasets they use. I don't mean this as a complaint... they only have so much time and people to make these updates, and for much of the world, there are no accurate datasets.Dick

Fernando, I have the same observations. I wrote and asked for instructions to remove the landclass and got no response. Can anyone give me some help? Thanks,FrankMedford Lakes, NJ

Not sure which landclass you want to remove.Either is located in SceneryBASESceneryFSGenesis landclass is called fsglc_us.bglRealScene contains several bgl files called rslc#####.bgl (rslc07142.bgl, rslc07145.bgl, rslc07539.bgl etc.)Just delete those and FS will use the default Landclass again.

Here's the same scene with MyWorld2004 landclass. Maybe you could comment about it's accuracy?66266.jpg

Hi FrankLooks like we are neighbors. I am in Voorhees NJ myself. I just removed the .bgl file from the scenerybasescenery folder.

Hi JustinIf you are redoing Philadelphia, you need to look at the discontinuities in the Schuylkill River Northwest of the city. This is true for both the default and the Beta scenery. My main objection to the Beta I tried was that the city had less autogen buildings and there was too much greenery surrounding buildings in areas I knew to be pretty much asphalt and concrete. The default scenery actually did a good job in the downtown area. It is the suburbs, both in Pennsylvania and Jersey sides, that could use some better detailing. One question I have is whether lanclass changes the roads or which are the files that code them in. In many areas is not really possible to fly by using the roads. For example once you cross the bridges into New Jersey road accuracy disappears. More accurate road placement could really help the VFR flyer.

HI Fernando,The landclass doesn't address the rivers, roads, powerlines, etc.--only the arrangment of the land use textures. Rivers, roads, etc., are a different type of scenery, and landclass is a component of the terrain engine.Philadelphia area, as most areas of the beta, is just the raw, mechanical conversion of the 1992 NLCD. There is little manual tweaking in the beta (Phase 1). Phase 2 (release versions) is the progression of manual tweaking based on various sources, not the least of which is end-user feedback.I'm also gradually addressing all the artifacts left from the resampling process from 30m source data to 1.2m km required by the terrain engine. These artifacts include the "bare" areas which is the terrain engine's interpretation of the water cells I have temporarily converted to "transparent" pending manual corrections.Hope this helps-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x
