Why do I sometimes just simply lose my brakes?

Featured Replies

Chris,I don't know that a hard landing will induce a brake failure, but I have planted the NGX at much more than 200 fpm without any brake problems.Somewhere in the manuals is a table that tells you what the minimum wait times are between cycles if you've overheated the brakes. Bear in mind that you might have autobraking (because the brakes are cool before touchdown) and then overheat the brakes during rollout while on the autobrakes, but not have them actually fade on you until you're on the taxiway, because the brake discs will actually INCREASE in temperature before they start to cool off. I haven't induced brake fade enough to know exactly where on the temperature scale they will certainly fade, but I have often taxied in with brake temps at 6.9 or so without any fade at all.
