New build, poor FSX performance, advice wanted.

Here is the build:i7-2600kASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3Radeon HD 6970 2GBCORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB)256GB SSD950wPSUWin7 64bitFresh install of OS, downloaded all the latest drivers.I am a bit disappointed so far with FSX performance.Any help or suggestions on settings to use, or tweaks appreciated.I have frame rates in the low to mid teens. I am not too concerned the actual FPS number, but want to have "smooth" flight, without stuttering.Visually FSX looks bad. Lots of jagged edges on the plane and buildings.Lots of "flashing" lights on the sides of buildings as well.I am hoping that tweaking/adjusting will take care of some/all of this.Perhaps I should replace the radeon with an nvidia card?I want this setup to run FSX very well, with some additional scenery in the future, orbx pacific NW specifically.I also want this setup to run "current" games well. Thanks for the help and suggestions

You need to OC to 4.5+ GHz

You need to enable Tri-Linear anti-aliasing in FSX.

Bingo!
Perhaps I should replace the radeon with an nvidia card?
Before you do so, apply Bojote's Shader Moel 3 tweak here.Cheers,- jahman.

Even before you OC it should run pretty well....Make sure you crank the AA and AF in your CCC (I think thats what its called for AMD cards). The AA and AF in-game FSX is not very powerful...When I turn all that stuff on with my rig it actually runs better....When you say low teens what are the situations? NGX at a payware airport with heavy ai and weather? Then it's normal. But if we're talking default C172 with default scenery then something is wrong.EDit: One other thing I thought of is your C1E (in bios), download CPUz and check to make sure your CPU is running at the usual speed while FSX runs. A few people on these forums have had it slow down to 1600MHz.... no idea why

Just an update. I am running FSX with the acceleration add-on. No other add-ons yet. I would like to get ORBX PNW soon.I am doing my testing with default scenery, using the c172 out of KSEA during day, with whatever the weather was set to by default.I have done some tweaking and have dramatically improved the performance. I did the Bojote's Shader Moel 3 tweak, as well as his "auto" fsx.cfg tune.I also played with adjusting the sliders to match a tweaking guide I found on this forum(I don't recall who the author was, sorry). Surprisingly, actually increasing some of the slider help out a bunch. I would have guessed less autogen would run better.I was having a horrible flickering on a LOT of the building at KSEA as well as some of the autogen ones. Turning off buildings cast shadows eliminated about 99% of this problem.I can live without the shadows, but the horrible flickering was driving me crazy. In the catalyst control center, I have the AA at 8xEQ and the anisotropic filtering at 4x. with both set to override application settings. With these few tweaks, FSX is running and looking MUCH better.I had the frame rates set to unlimited, and am now getting ~25-50 fps. much better.I have read that locking to 30 may be a good thing to try. Both internally, or leave it unlimited, and use an external limiter. For the most part, I am almost pleased with the results. There were a few times that the scenery started to stutter, but I hope to continue playing with settings until I am happy.I am running at stock speeds now, but plan to over clock in the future. I hope to get to about 4.5 GHz.I would like to thank you for the tips and encouragement. It is truly appreciated.

Yep and once you OC to that you'll notice another big change... you should be able to lock at 30 and achieve that almost everywhere with very high settings.

Do not forget to install Bojote's shader

Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus

How to instal Bojote's shader ? is it different from running the CFG config from his website ?

He said he already installed the shader mod.... unless there's another one?

@ doo:You have to be very careful with what kind of settings you use in the Catalyst Control Center (CCC).Get some inspiration here:http://fsxtimes.word...eon-settings-2/doo wrote: "I also played with adjusting the sliders to match a tweaking guide I found on this forum(I don't recall who the author was, sorry). Surprisingly, actually increasing some of the slider help out a bunch. FSX is NOT a game, its a simulator and requires thinking a bit outside the box to tickle the hardware by the software settings and get it to run sweet1. DO NOT use the autogen restriction lines in the configuration file for buildings and trees if you are using SP1/SP2. In most cases those lines will throw off the priority system and make the sim run/stutter worse.2. Believe it or not, ZERO autogen slider can make frames drop, how? Same reason as above. Try to maintain at least 50+% (DENSE) however very slow systems may need to limit that to NORMAL/SPARCE or even OFF (off = rare must be very slow hardware)Keeping the autogen slider at DENSE or greater actually tends to raise frames. Going too high for the installed hardware and Scenery Complexity/weather is where perf starts to really dropMany can run a 3/4 (very Dense) Scenery Complexity with a 3/4 (very dense) autogen silder however your mileage may vary. The important part about this slider is if your hardware is not very slow, keep it at a minimum of DENSE." http://www.simforums.com/forums/setting-up-fsx-and-how-to-tune-it_topic29041.htmlAlso, you can overclock that monstercard:http://www.hardwareh...oise-temps.htmlhttp://www.overclock...70-direct-cu-ii
