March 11, 200422 yr Hello Jim,How do I lock my framerate and where would I go to update my MB chipset.. this is a new computer......from HPEddie
March 11, 200422 yr Hey Eddie. To lock your frame rates, do this from flight simulator. Go to settings, then to the display settings, then once that window opens, go to the hardware tab.You will see a slider at the top where you can set the frame rate limit. I use 20 on my PIII 1ghz system and I have NO stutters. You should experiment with the slider and see which setting works best for your computer. Limiting the frames to 25 is a good place to start. As far as your mother-board chipset drivers, you should have received a motherboard book with your computer's documentation. You will need to go to the manufacturer's website to download the latest FLASH bios drivers. However, since your computer is new, I would suggest that you try the other performance boosters posted in the hardware forum at Avsim. I have found by turning off many of the unecessary services in Windows XP, has greatly improved flight simulator's performance.I would only update your mother-board drivers as a last option. They may or may not help with the stutters issue. If you didn't get a mother-board book, contact the manufacturer of your computer to find out how to get the latest flash bios drivers.Just remember that updating your mother-board drivers can be risky if not done properly. If your not sure how to do it, don't do it yourself. Get someone who knows how to do the update to help you.I have never updated my BIOS drivers and have been able to get very good performance out of my old PIII system.Hope this helps!ScottATP/CFII - KCOS, in the real aviation world.
March 11, 200422 yr ScottMine is also set at 20 and I have a PIVAlso, when I start FS9 the opening dialogue used to take my entire screen, now it only shows on a portion of the screen.. Why is this? My desktop setting are 1024 x768 pixels...Eddie
March 11, 200422 yr Hi All,By chipset I did not mean BIOS. There are communications between the MB and components that are done with software. If you have a VIA chipset go to the VIA website. Another commen MB chip maker is SiS.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
March 11, 200422 yr I also suffered from slight stuttering using my Radeon 9800Pro IceQ card. Many people recommend leaving your framerates on UNLIMITED not locking it as one did in FS2002. I switched off "FAST WRITES" in my Radeon control panel and the problem went away. I leave my framerates on unlimited and now get between 40-80 fps with default FS2004 scenery and everything else on MAX (AI traffic reduced to 50$ due to UT software).Hope this helps.Adam
March 11, 200422 yr After updating all drivers:What are you looking at on screen when it starts to slow down? Whatever it is, that is what you need to go turn down in the sliders. If you are looking at a terminal full of AI traffic when it slows down, you have to turn down the traffic %. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
