February 24, 201214 yr Take a look at this youtube recording. It is a Inflight cockpit video which shows a real Norwegian flight (from ENGM to EDDT) It's an approach . It seems like the A/T is on all the way down to touchdown. From 00:10 you can clearly see that the A/T indicator is on (green). 2500 annunciation comes at 02:25 and the A/P is turned off at 04:06. A/T is still on. 1000 annunciation comes at 04:15. A/T is still on. Landing speed 140. At 05:34 the A/T is turned off. Just after touchdown. I though they turned off the A/T way before touching the ground. How come? geir Geir Hansen
February 24, 201214 yr Don't know about the 737. On the MD- for example it is standard procedure that the autothrottle remains on for the whole landing process. The autothrottles will retard at 50 ft and switch off at main wheel spin up.Will have to read up on 737 systems and procedures.Xander Xander Koote All round aviation geek 1st Officer Boeing 777

It's really interesting to observe that they keep the A/T all the way down. I wonder if 737s turns off A/T at main wheel spin up? And if this feature is modeled in PMDGs 737s.-geir Geir Hansen
February 24, 201214 yr I think the Autothrottle can be kept on until touchdown. From my knowledge it will turn off when you start the reversers. Greetings from the 737 flightdeck!
February 24, 201214 yr This is primarily a difference between real life and flightsim... real world ops usually have the A/T left engaged through the entire approach and landing, the thrust levers are brought to idle manually by the PF, A/T servos will not fight manual intervention. The 737 A/T does not have an "auto-retard" feature unless doing a full autoland. February 24, 201214 yr Hi guys,Just to get this straight. The A/T on the 737NG can either be ARM or ON. What you see before he disangages the A/P is the A/T being ON. As he disengages the A/P he also presses the SPD pb on the MCP this puts the A/T into ARM ready for a G/A.Boeing, in contrast to airbus, says never to handfly with the A/T ON doing the approach.kind regards, Martin DahlerupMy rig contains a random selection of computer parts working in perfect harmony.... I hold a EASA fATPL + A320 SIC rating and a FAA CPL with CFI rating.
February 25, 201214 yr Author Thanks for good answers guys! A very good tip from FirstOfficera320. "Disagaging SPD will put A/T in ARM mode ready for G/A." This is in turn, I suppose, in compliance with Boeings 737 NG Flight Crew Training Maual which states: "Avoid touching down with thrust above idle....." With SPD off and A/T ARM I suppose it makes it possible to put thrust into idle before touching down.-geir Edited February 25, 201214 yr by gura75 Geir Hansen
