FSX and Video Problem

Featured Replies

I'm suddenly getting an FSX error stating that my graphics card (NVidia GTX 480) is not compatible with the current shader version. This errror displayed after I installed a new touch screen monitor (using StarTech USB to DVI connection) and after I installed the latest NVidia driver for my OS (Windows7 64-bit).Thinking there might be a driver corruption, I downloaded and installed the latest StarTech driver and NVidia graphics driver (295.73). No change.I went back to a previous NVidia driver (285.62) but that also did not solve the problem. I also reinstalled Shader 3.0. No change.I scanned the Internet for links to solving this problem but all I found were references to video cards not being compatible with FSX.Is there some setting either in FSX or NVidia control panel that will make this error go away?ThanksFrank

Have you done a total clean driver install with driver sweeper? Have you re-built shader cache? Have you re-built your FSX.CFG?

I don't have drive sweeper but I downloaded new drivers for the functions I thought were revelent. I let FSX rebuild the config file.I had forgotten about the shader cache. I'll have to look that one up to see what I need. Thanks for your response.Frank

OK, I've completed the suggested steps mentioned above.I attempted to rebuild the shader cache. I deleted the folders/files in the appropriate shader folder. I started FSX with the same result - no start. The shader folder was not rebuilt.I downloaded driver sweeper and cleaned everything out. No change - no startI tried to have FSX rebuild the config file. There was a new config file but there was only a single entry associated with the shader cache.Where do I go from here?ThanksFrank

If you have close access to a computer hardware store, pick up a cheap Nvidia card like the 8400GS and test it in your system. It almost sounds to me like you have a faulty graphics card.*Also, remove any overclock settings and run all of your hardware at stock speeds. Before you were getting this error did you install any addons that might be causing this error?

I already have an NVidia GeForce 9800GT card installed as a secondary capability. This board drives a 15" touch screen monitor and my VRInsight CDU II. I also have a StarTech USB to DVI unit that drives a 22" touch screen. This unit has its own driver. The only graphics entries in the FSX.cfg file are for the GTX 480 and the 9800.I'm not overclocking any devices on my system.Based upon what you've said here, I'm thinking about removing the driver for the large touch screen (USB to DVI). That driver was installed after I had a working FSX.Again, thanks for the help.Frank

OK, that was the problem. The driver for the USB to DVI unit caused FSX to crash because of incompatibility with shader. At least now I know where to start looking for a solution to this issue. Thanks for your support.Frank
