March 12, 200422 yr Tonight I did a flight from Amsterdam (AMS/EHAM) to Corfu (CFU/LGKR)(using Posky's 757-200) and when I got to Corfu I was given a VOR DME approach to runway 17. Can someone explain to me how to set up the instruments so I can fly this approach properly.I only had FS2004 since december and since I had FS9 I was never given this type of approach before.
March 12, 200422 yr You will need the approach chart in order to know the IAF, DME fixes and MAP.You can read about VOR approaches over here:http://www.navfltsm.addr.com/index.htm
March 12, 200422 yr Hi, that would be Jeppesen Chart LGKR 13-2. Tune VOR/DME Garitsa 108.80 to NAV1. The approach begins with a holding point, intersection HOTEL. It
March 12, 200422 yr Check to see if the approach is available in the GPS. Open the GPS, press the PROC , press ENT if the Select Approach is highlighted. If your destination airport (LGKR) is shown in the airport box, turn the outer ring of the large knob to the right so the highlight is in the approach box. Turn the inner ring of the large knob to the right to open the approaches box. Turn the inner ring left/right to select the desired approach. Press ENT to select the approach. Select the transition (may only be one), press ENT to select the transition. The highlight should move to Load?. You can move the highlight to Activate? with the outer ring. Load? will only load the approach, while Activate? will load and activate the approach. Press ENT to load or load activate the approach. If you only load the approach, you will need to press PROC to activate the approach at the time you choose. Once activated the first leg of the approach will change to magenta. Whether you fly the approach manually or allow the GPS to fly the approach (A/P=ON, NAV=ON, NAV/GPS=GPS), each leg will inturn change to magenta. The autopilot will not descend, so manually altitude flying is required.Do not confuse this with an ILS approach using the NAV1 radio. In this approach (A/P=ON, APP=ON, NAV/GPS=NAV), the ILS frequency is tuned into the NAV1 radio. If an ILS approach is provided in the GPS, it can be loaded and activated but the autopilot will take its commands from the NAV1 radio signals. In this case, the GPS is only a backup display.W.
