PMDG 747-400 fuel imbalance issue

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,I currently have a problem with the PMDG 747. Dont flame me if I might have overlooked something in the manual.I departed VHHH to LLBG with the RR version of the plane and filled about 300.000lbs of fuel via PMDG fuel manager.I had x-feed on, as well as all fuel pumps are on and no 2+3 override is off, as usual. In-flight, I recieved a warning "fuel imbal 2+3" and noticed a difference of about 3000lbs between no 2 and 3.Also there is a green arrow indicated on the fuel display in the direction of no. 2 tank.I now switched the pumps of no. 3 off and tried to only use fuel from no. 2, so that their balanced again. But the plane continuosly transfers fuel from the center to no. 2 tank, making the imbalance even worse.whats going on there?

IIRC, and assuming No. 2 tank is heavy:

  1. Turn No. 3 tank fuel override pump off
  2. Turn Center tank pumps off (if not empty).

When tanks are balanced,

  1. Turn No. 3 fuel override pum on
  2. turn Center tank pumps on

I'm sure you want to follow proper procedures, but if all else fails, saving and reloading the flight will properly distribute the ramianing fuel accross al tanks (an unfortunate oversight in the PMDG B-744.)Cheers,- jahman.

@ jahmanthanks, I'll try should that ever happen again. on the flight on which that ocurred I just let the thing transfer the fuel, on an imbalance of around 5000 the center tank was empty and i used up the fuel from the heavy tank and could land with no issues.@ ZachLWthat exactly is the point, I am a legal owner of the plane, but I don't feel comfortable giving away my full real name in a public forum.@ Gear Up and OffOh really? thanks!

that exactly is the point, I am a legal owner of the plane, but I don't feel comfortable giving away my full real name in a public forum.
And you shouldn't have to!I have yet to see an add-on that warns potential buyers that they will not receive support unless they diovulge their RW identity. As a matter of practice, it's just as easy or even easier for the developper to maintain a list of approved forum nicks via private email to heir website upon "first contact" with the relevant purchasing information. The REX forum used to require you disclose information, but after several complaints they switched to a much better system of approved forum nicks.Cheers,- jahman.

Rather than saving and reloading the flight, you can also cheat by setting the fuel load through the PMDG menu - just set it to whatever your actual fuel load is at the time. When you exit the menu, you will have the same load, but evenly balanced. As to why the imbalance happens, that is in the manual. You could also try the tutorial by Holger Seilz. It was written for the FS9 version, but is OK for FSX too. He explains very well about the fuel balance situation.Regarding real names, I share the concerns of others, but in the interests of balance I shall point out that PMDG also have their Support Ticket system.

Regards,

PD
