Dang George,I feel your pain... really... something causes my system not to save to the career*.bin files and I have to re-fly the opening two Icon missions every time I go to use FLIGHT.Have you disabled any Services?Maybe try a checking with Windows update? A required Windows component is disabled on your system.
George I too had the same problem but it wasn't with Flight. I was trying to install Dirt3 under Steam and had exactly the same problem/message. To be honest I can't recall what I did, later on I got it to work somehow. The problem lies within the GFWL (Games For Windows Live) app. Here's a link of suggestions you may want to try. There are others that have the same problems with this MS app and in different platforms.http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1612353Hope this helpsCarlos

Thanks Carlos - followed your link and tried the ideas but still get the error that GFW-Live failed to initializeGuess I`ll have to keep tryingGeorge

i can't believe how some people are having problems installing Flight.
I can remember (now.... just waking up) when the beta started I had some problems too...Had to get GFWL latest client... and the router was a mini-nightmare to configure... I "knew" something somewhere was being blocked... finally found out about UPnP and got that configured correctly. There were those couple of hurdles that took a day or so to sort... then no problems after that. (No clue why my above problem).

I'd place money on what Señor Carlos said... or the router and UPnP (or a port).George, check this Microsoft Troubleshooting article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977709While perusing it I noticed there are a couple ports that have to be opened in the router (I remember having done that too now)Rob

as an elderly and not technical body, I am puzzled by "opening ports" so any clarification would be appreciated.I have added GFW-Live to my Firewall (which made no difference) now I am stuck. Thanks for your help guysGeorge

You can try this if it is a Port issue:In your router, if there is a "Gamming Mode" option, enable it, and disable your Antivirus and Firewall just for a moment. (risky but sometimes solves many issues)Hope this helps You.

Did say I was not technical :-( Do you mean by "In your router" something inside the actual router or is there somewhere in W7 that I go to.Apologies for my ignoranceGeorge

You will need your router manual or try typing in in the address bar (edit: sry web browser address bar):192.168.1.1 (then enter)It could bring up up the web management page for your router (all the router options) if not and you do not have a manual... a google search for your router should find you a pdf or some help to know what the management page IP is...The following corresponds to the "Port Range" for Port Forwarding on this wikiHow page:http://www.wikihow.com/Set-up-Port-Forwarding-on-a-RouterApplic Start & Stop Pro IP AddressMSLive 3074 to 3074 TCP 192.168.1.101Application is whatever you want to call it... MSLive... GFWL1 GFWL2 Whatever (just so you know what it is referring to)Start to end range (the one I entered above is one that is required... specified in that KB link above)Protocol TCP or UDP (specified in that KB link above)IP Address of the FLIGHT comp... to get that:Start > Run > enter the letters "cmd" (w/o quotes, hit enter) > a "DOS" box opens, type inipconfig /all (hit enter)IP Address is what you want.Default Gateway might give you the right IP address for the web management page. I'm pretty much a noob with all this networking stuff so... please anyone step in if there is a better way.

George, you can NOT edit router options unless you are physically connected to it, in other words this can not be done while in wireless mode, your pc/laptop need to be cable /connected to the router. Also, I'm trying to remember what I did in order to fix the problem, just can't recall, but as soon as memory comes back, I'll post it.Carlos
