Just had one of those magic flights :)

WARNING: Long rambling post, about a great experience with FSX!=========================================================================I wanted to share this with you all, as last night I had one of those magical flights, where you feel erally blessed to have this fine hobby of ours. :smile:I am a long term simmer, having been around here under another ID many years ago; but in 2009 I quit FS for a few years due to a house move, job loss and a couple of other 'life biggies'.I am slowly but steadily getting back into the hobby and have all of my hardware (primarily the 'Saitek Pro' suite) now set up again, and a new i7 2600k PC to enjoy FSX with.I am taking a different approach with addons, and although I have an external HD with literally a a thousand pounds worth of addons on, I am only installing a few at a time, that I am currently using. This is keeping FSX really fast in the loading department.Anyway, my 'magical flight' occurred partly because for a few weeks I have been dreaming of having a moving map on my netbook, networked to my FS PC, (wirelessly), and how cool it would be to have a high degree of detail on a little Netbook on my knee, without it affecting FS performance on the main rig.I discovered the amazing Plan-G software which is free, and I set about learning how to set it up to work on the Netbook; firstly I had to set up the 'HomeGroup' network (easy on Win 7), and then the difficult part was configuring Simconnect to open the global port so that Plan-G on the wireless Netbook would work 'magically' with FS on the main rig. After a few false starts, I got it working! .... mainly thanks to a brilliant free tool called 'Simmconnect Config Tool'.I also decided to pick up a new aircraft and as I have been enjoying the default C208 during the testing of my new rig / installation, I went for the Carenado C208 Grand Caravan. I also bought Accu-Feel a couple of days ago. So...........My magical flight was with the beautiful HD Carenado C208, with the amazing Accu-Feel effects (I just love the brake sounds!), with the fantastic Plan-G moving map and flight planner on my Netbook, and flying on Orbx's freeware YMUI Murray Island scenery. The flight itself was a simply extended circuit, with 2 touch & Go's but it was the wonderful C208, along with the amazing effects of Accu-Feel, such a fantastic moving map display (doubt I will ever use the default GPS's again), and gorgous Orbx scenery that made this 30 minute flight so magical. When you consider that the Plan-G moving map and Orbx YMUI are FREE, and that Accu-Feel only costs $15, and that even the Carenado C208 was good value, that's partly what made this such an amazing experience!Heck my Netbook was only 169 pounds (about $210)!So, HAPPY DAYS! .I really, really recommend anyone that can afford it, to pick up a cheap Netbook (with Win 7 Starter), set up your wireless Win 7 HomeGroup network with your main FS PC, then get your Simconnect.xml configured and get Plan-G installed on the Netbook........ as well as the amazing Google Earth based map imaging, you also import your FS Flight Plans (or create new ones) and these are overlayed onto the map. You can get all of your airport frequencies, runway details, navaids etc, simply by hovering your mouse over an airport on the map .......... just amazing.:(

That is awesome! I know what you mean about those flights that just completely engross you. They are few in between, when they happen it makes all the purchases and pains of setting things up worthwhile! I'll have to check out that Plan G software.

Great interesting post, I have a laptop and will be looking into this. Plan G and AccuFeel both sound very interesting. How does AccuFeel compare to EZdok Camera I wonder?Plus it gave me an idea to try and use a dead laptop screen I have laying around as a 3rd monitor.

Accu-Feel is (I would say) 90% about audio..... amazing audio effects and nuances that really increase immersion. There are also some subtle little movements of the aircraft, over bumps etc. Contrastingly, EZ-Dok moves the camera. (as opposed to the aircraft). I don't use EZ-Dok as I found it unreliable with TrackIR for me personally, but I have read from others that Accu-Feel and EZDok, work fine together. Hope this helps!
