2 WD 10,000rpm + SDD HD

Featured Replies

Hi guys,I am trying to see how to improve my FSX experience. Currently, I have 2 WD 10,000rpm (320Gigs each) installed on my computer. First drive C: holds OS and all other softwareware; the second HD holds all FSX files plus all FSX add-ons. However the FSX HD (320 Gg) is getting close to be filled by another 50 Gigs, and my FSX load times is becoming more and more slow (takes about 3-6 minutes to load and sometimes it freazes and will not load). Here are my questions:(1) If I install only (and all) FSX stuff on the second dedicated HD, why is my C drive (OS drive) showing FSX files under the control pannel (add and remove programs eg.). Does this means some FSX files go to the C: drive by default?(2) My current drives run at 10,000rpm each. Will it help if I were to get a thrid drive but make this an SSD Drive? I couldn't affrod a 300 or 400 Gg SSD HD right now, so I would get a small one, like a 200 Gg. Can I use all 3 drives? What would you recommend that I install on the SSD drive...I guess my question is how should I destribute my FSX files and add-ons among all 3 HD?Plesase note that I have never done all 3 HD in the past so, your detailed explanation is welcomed.Thank you in advanced,Johnny

1. Some files do get placed in the hidden folders... normally usernameappdata etc etc... even some addons do this.2. I personally place FSX on my SSD, but I dont have a large install - only about 50GB total. In retrospect, the SSD purchase probably wasn't the most economical (duh), but I do like the decreased loading times. If I were you I'd probably just get another raptor..

So, if I get another Raptor, what do I install on each of the 3 HD? Will FSX work flawlessly by getting all the files it needs from each HD?

Ooooh I misunderstood your Q.Even if you don't like it I believe FSX will still install a few small files on whatever drive your OS resides. But you can always place some big texture files example, addon, GEX in separate folders. You want to keep FSX on the same drive as much as possible.

I might as well get one 500GB SDD for all FSX files, including all add-ons...is this good?

That would not be the best way to spend your $$.

Yeah, kinda changing my mind on this ssd drives. Not much of a difference on what I keep reading; at least not for the price these drives are at.

It comes down to this:If you are ready to send me 700€ for me to buy a 500gb SSD, then you should buy it yourself. If not, then not.Got money to throw away? :-)

Well, after reading so many dis-aliented (my own word) words on this topic, I have changed my mind and will not get the SSD. So, I belive it would be better to get a better processor like the Ivy- Bridge which I hope it be good for us FSXers.

Quite my opinion too.

Hi Sorry to jump in on this post but I have a same kind of question about two hard drives. At the moment I have only one HD installed which is a WD 10,000. I want to install a second which is only running at 7,200. Will it be best to install my os + FSx and all my aircraft on this one (7200) and all my scenery files on the WD 10,000 rpm. Thanks Shaun

No, leave things the way they are.
