Problem with keyboard assignments

Featured Replies

I am using FS2crew voice commander edition for PMDG 737NG in FS9. System = windows xp professional, version 2002, sp3.I can just not seem to get my keyboard assignments right, and I suspect it has to do with having (or having had) the PMDG 747-400 package installed, too.Upon install of FS2Crew, the PMDG 737NG assignments are incorrect ==> the package doesn't perform correctly.I have tried (many times now) to change the key assignments manually in the PMDG menu in FS9. Some don't even stick during the flight. Most revert to wrong upon restarting FS9.I have also tried (many times now) to copy the 737kbd.ini file from the FSCrew directory over the 737kbd.ini file in the PMDG directory, to no avail. I've even tried to delete the PMDG 737kbd.ini file and only then copying the FS2Crew one in there, no luck either. Then I have removed the PMDG 747-400 entirely from my computer, using the add/remove tool in the control panel, as per PMDG instructions. That didn't help, so I tried repeating changing the key assignments manually, then copying the FS2Crew 737kbd.ini file to replace the PMDG 737 kbd.ini file. ===> guess what? still no luck.Last step, locating any remaining PMDG 747-400 files in the FS9 directory I could find, and deleting them manually ===> nothing helps.I don't know what to do try next. Can you please help?Jan Swinnen

Hi Jan,If the required PMDG 737 keyboard assignment match those listed in the FS2Crew manual, it should work. Can you make the same keypress by hand to trigger the command?Perhaps something is intercepting the keypress? Like another window being in focus.Cheers,

The problem is that something keeps overriding the correct keyboard assignments. I have copied your 737kbd.ini file (10/12/2009 8:46) into my C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9PMDG directory. It sits there unaltered and unedited. As a result, I would expect that when I start up FS9, the correct keyboard assignments should be loaded.Only, when I verify which keyboard assignments have actually been loaded (by checking in the PMDG - General - Keyboard commands drop down menu, I find that different keyboard assignments are listed there. So, despite the correct 737kdb.ini file having been placed in my C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9PMDG directory, another set of keyboard assigments is being loaded in my FS9.I cannot but conclude that there must be another file, somewhere, which contains those keyboard assignments, and that it conflicts with and overrides the assignments from your 737kbd.ini file.My suspect remains the PMDG 747-400, because, even though I have uninstalled that package via the add/remove program feature of my control panel, and even though I have manually removed any other traces of that package which I was able to find, the window with the list of keyboard commands which opens via the PMDG - General - Keyboard commands drop down menu in FS9, is still entitled "PMDG 737NG / 747-400 - Keyboard Assignment".Here is a list of the keyboard assignments which I find in FS9, whilst having your original and unedited 737kbd.ini file in my C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9PMDG directory:PMDG 737NG / 747-400 - Hi Jan,I have no idea why your keyboard assignments reverting to their initial value. You might want to ask PMDG Support.Long shot: Maybe the PMDG Keyboard.INI files are write protected by chance... but how would they get write protected unless you manually write protected the file?Long shot: Ensure UAC is disabled and run everything as an Admin. Cheers,

Bryan,I have uninstalled and reinstalled both FS2Crew and the whole PMDG 737NG micmac. Now the FS2Crew key assignments stick. Problem solved (this one, because i'm sensing there may be other issues to come back to -- we'll see).
