What is Prepar3D ?

Recommended Posts

It seems that (new?) simulation products have been recently launched. The already discussed "Flight" by Microsoft and another one I've found navigating the net: "Prepar 3D" by Lockheed Martin (the aircraft builders?).They say it is "only" $ 499 per license but it does not seem to offer anything that FS9 or FSX didn't offer before except a ten times higher price...or maybe I'm wrong?.Anyone has more info about this product?.(Please move if wrong forum.)

Searching the forums would have given you plenty of info on that. Prepar3D is the source code from FSX, further developed by Lockheed Martin for commerical customers like Flight Schools etc. They also offer a monthly subscription at 10$ a month or so, correct me if I'm wrong. Some say it has better performance than FSX. They announced that v2 of Prepar3D will offer a huge amount of improvements on the lousy code MS created for FSX and may support DX11 and stuff like that.I flew in Prepar3D at a fixed based simulator the other day and didn't notice any big differences to FSX at the current stage.

It's a professional version of FSX (or ESP which the engine is really called).

The core FSX engines are being improved like being able to use multiple threads and cores which FSX does not do. Its current 1.2 version is compatible with many FSX utilities and add-ons. Aircraft must follow the FSX SDK rules. FSUIPC4 and makewrys current versions will run with it.Aircraft that go outside of the standard FSX interface (SDK rules) like PMDG may not work with it.http://www.prepar3d.com/Be sure to read the licensing sections.
