Does ASE update weather in real time while enroute?

Featured Replies

Forgive me but I do not see this answered anywhere specifically nor directly.I have both REX2 and ASE.If I run just REX2 it updates the weather as I fly. So even if I fly with no preselected flight plan REX2 will update the weather for me as I fly.Does ASE do so or does it take my flight plan and pre-assign the weather along the netire route and then not further update it in real time? Do I therefore always have to preload a flight plan with ASE?Cheers.

ASE updates weather as you fly, and you can adjust the frequency of those updates from once every 5 minutes to once every 30 minutes. You do not have to file a flight plan within ASE.The benefit of filing a flight plan within ASE is a detailed briefing report complete with METARS at origin and destination, winds aloft predictions by waypoint, and AIRMETS and SIGMETS.

A follow-up: if I do not install any snap shots, what does ASE use for textures as it loads weather in real time? Does it use the default FSX ones or the REX2 ones?

Whatever you have installed into FSX.
