March 18, 201214 yr Hi,I'm having an issue with voice recognition controlling Windows 7 menus instead of correctly interpreting what I say as FSCrew commands. I am not starting Windows Voice Recognition before running FSX, nor do I have Windows Voice Recognition starting up automatically at Windows bootup. Rather, I am starting Windows Voice Recognition only AFTER running both FSX and starting FS2Crew as stated in the FS2Crew online user's manual. I also have a fresh installation of the PMDG NGX, along with SP1C correctly installed.Specifically, what is happening on my installation is that when FS2Crew seems to correctly understand my voice phrases, everything works fine. However, if FS2Crew does not properly understand me, it appears that Windows Voice Recognition will instead interpret my voice phrase as a Windows command and will proceed open the Windows Start menu and run programs, etc. I understand that better training my voice to Windows will improve the situation, but should Windows Voice Recognition be able to erroneously activate Windows menus like this when I'm running FS2Crew? As I currently understand it, running Windows Voice Recognition AFTER starting FSX and FS2Crew should normally preclude this from happening as FS2Crew should then be the 'focus' of the Windows Voice Activation system, instead of Windows menu commands.Again, the erroneous Windows menu controlling only seems to happen when FS2Crew does not properly understand my voice phrases. It's as if all unrecognized FS2Crew voice commands are automatically somehow re-routed to control Windows menus instead. Obviously very frustrating for me! Thank you for any help or insight anyone here can provide. -John Thomas
March 18, 201214 yr Commercial Member Hi John,Did you read the manual? :Peace:All you need to do is this:Microsoft's 'Windows Speech Recognition' system must be OFFprior to loading Flight Simulator. To ensure Windows Speech Recognition does not load on Windows Startup, make sure 'Run Speech Recognition at Startup' is unchecked on the Speech Properties -> Speech Recognition page, which is located in the Windows Control Panel. Make Sure 'Run Speech Recognition at startup' is UNCHECKED! B. York FS2Crew Web Site / FS2Crew Facebook Page / FS2Crew Discord
March 18, 201214 yr Author Hi John,Did you read the manual?Hi Brian,Ummm - please re-read my original post in which I very clearly stated that I did read the manual and I'm not starting Voice Recognition before running FSX, nor do I have Voice Recongnition running at Windows startup. I promise I am doing everything according to the correct procedure outlined in the FS2Crew manual. :Hypnotized:This is why I don't understand how my problem can happen.....Thank you.
March 18, 201214 yr Commercial Member Hi John,You wrote this: Rather, I am starting Windows Voice Recognition only AFTER running both FSX and starting FS2Crew as stated in the FS2Crew online user's manual. Not sure where in the manual it says that. That's not correct info. Please show me the reference.Do not start Windows Voice Recognition ever.... do "not" do that. That's why Windows itself is acting on your speech commands.Cheers, B. March 18, 201214 yr Author Do not start Windows Voice Recognition ever.... do "not" do that. That's why Windows itself is acting on your speech commands.Hi Brian,Whoops, I misunderstood the manual. You are 100 percent correct in your diagnosis. One only needs to properly configure Windows Speech Recognition before using FS2Crew for the first time, but it's never necessary to manually or automatically start the Windows Speech Recognition system at all afterwards. FS2Crew automatically interfaces with the Windows Speech Recognition system seamlessly by itself when FSX is run. I didn't pick this up for whatever reason, sorry. Thank you for your help and support! FS2Crew voice edition is now working flawlessly on my setup.
