March 18, 201214 yr ...am I expecting too much? Dell U2412M.This was taken approx. 50cm from the screen. I am usually sitting about 60-70cm from the screen, the effect is more or less the same. It's an IPS. I know they glow. But this is a 4th monitor already. Not a fourth Dell, I tried more than one.The monitor is only calibrated visually, brightness is down to 36, contrast to 75, colors don't matter really. The pic is at 90degrees vertically and horizontally.Take a look:
March 18, 201214 yr Got one too a few days ago. On a dark screen mine glows too from the corners, but as you move head left/right the glow fades to black. That seems a severe case of BLB. March 18, 201214 yr I have a Viewsonic VP2655wb IPS and mine does not have a glow like you have, I certainly do not think what you are seeing is normal for an IPS monitor. A great monitor forum to ask questions is here:http://hardforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=78 This is the biggest display forum on the net that I have found.
March 18, 201214 yr I just booked the return shipment for Amazon. Gonna be returning it next week. It's not a BLB, it's something everyone is describing (for instance on Prad) as an IPS Glow. Now, I will see if I can find any displays that minimize that, but I'm currently just looking for another good quality:- the bezels and the housing starts making crackling noises after some 10 minutes- contrast is way below what Dell is giving away in tech specs (achieved some 700:1, instead of 1000:1)- the quality of the stand is totally poor - feels like a cheap plastic and also looks like itI'm quite used to something else. My old Samsung is so stable and good quality, that I won't accept anything below.ZR2440W offers good contrast, good build quality, bit lower responsiveness, but I ain't a hardcore gamer... so, I think I'll order that one back.Or look some more for some alternatives... I have a Viewsonic VP2655wb IPS and mine does not have a glow like you have, I certainly do not think what you are seeing is normal for an IPS monitor. A great monitor forum to ask questions is here:http://hardforum.com...isplay.php?f=78 This is the biggest display forum on the net that I have found. That Viewsonic looks cool. Too expensive for me though. But, nowhere to find in Europe.I know about Hardforum, I got an account there too, I browse through that forum regularily.
March 18, 201214 yr But look at this review when he's changing the brightness of the monitor, at about 7:30, you'll see in lower right corner the same type of effect.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6enZDZPnSUQIf your Viewsonic doesn't do that, could you maybe show me a video or a photo of a dark night scene in FSX?
March 18, 201214 yr I bought the monitor after reading about it on [H], no-one ever mentioned about A03 there, units of that batch aren't quite common yet I suppose. Tried cranking up brightness on a A02/Sept/China, and similar glow didn't appear. I recommend browsing [H], someone else mentioned about similar issue before. https://www.youtube.com/user/JustaRandomSimmer Simulator Videos http://sierra-hotel.blogspot.com Aviation Picture Blog
March 18, 201214 yr and similar glow didn't appear. You are aware that you have to be looking at the dark picture, right? Something in lines of flying in room-low-light-conditions with night in FSX and only instruments lit up. Something I do very often with NGX, as it looks most awesome...I'll make a comparison pic of night flying on 245B and on Dell, when viewed the same picture from 90degrees frontally. Just for the comparison sake.
March 18, 201214 yr Here you go. My brightness is set at 30 out of 100 and it does not change like that video shows when you change the brightness up or down. I have no way of making a video to post. If you want a better look at the pictures PM me you email adress and I will email them to you.
March 18, 201214 yr Heh, as good as the shots are, the "screenshots" are useless.I ment real photos, like with a camera, just like I did...
March 18, 201214 yr To bad the screenshots are useless to you, I tried.I do not have a digital camera so it seems that I can not help you.
March 18, 201214 yr I've tested the monitor empirically in numerous situations now. Dark FS scenes are of course included. ENB settings have gone though an overhaul, had a lousy TN monitor before.I recommend asking a A02 from your retailer. https://www.youtube.com/user/JustaRandomSimmer Simulator Videos http://sierra-hotel.blogspot.com Aviation Picture Blog
March 18, 201214 yr To bad the screenshots are useless to you, I tried.I do not have a digital camera so it seems that I can not help you.Yeah. The effect you are seeing on my shot comes from the display, not from the GPU, thus rendering screenshots from FSX completely irrelevant. Thanks again for trying.
March 19, 201214 yr Well, there are some new LG Panel in sight according to TFT Central. In Q2, they should be launcing AH-IPS panels. I think I'll just hold off a bit and keep my 245B for a while longer.Source: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news_archive/25.htm#new_lgdisplay_panels
