DX9 stuttering blues..

Featured Replies

So;It has always been the case on my system that I could squeeze a few more frames and a bit more butter out of running in DX10 over DX9...I guess I just got used to the weak AA and AF and the strobing runway markings etc.In any case, I have been tweaking and playing again of late and have got things looking really nice in DX9 with the NVIDIA Inspector tweaks, FXAA and frame-rate limiters etc...and I reckon I can get used to the 5-15 FPS I drop from DX10 if things are this pretty.Except! It isn't just the frame-rate drop I am contending with - DX9 mode gives me noticeably more micro-stuttering and the occasional hitching/freezing as well, which I do find really aggravating.I have tweaking and tuned and played with the .cfg until my fingers bled and it still seems to be any issue.I am pretty sure there is not much I can do on this, but do any of the bright sparks out there have any ideas? If not, it is back to DX10 for me!Cheers

Cheers!

Mine runs smoother with FPS locked in FS instead of an external limiter. Scenery shadows was causing some stutters for me too.

Thanks Bud - I already tried locking down internally - doesn't seem to fix this particular issue - and I got the scenery shadows off too!CheersThanks Bud - I already tried locking down internally - doesn't seem to fix this particular issue - and I got the scenery shadows off too!Cheers

Have you tried letting FS build a new .cfg?

Yup - I tried a boxfresh .cfg!I think I will just have to resign myself to smoother-but-glitchier DX10.

Mr BenYou may suffering from SLI stutter and I don't know of a "cure" except to use only a single card for FSX and even then you may still get stuttering. The other option is to try various nvidia drivers say from the 275.33 up, and see which one gives best results.RegardsPeterH

Cheers Peter - I have tried whipping the second card out...and it does seem to improve things a little...but not as much as DX10 does!!Good idea re: drivers though - I may well take a stroll through the archives and see if any of the older drivers help.

Cheers!

Mr BenSorry that didn't work ! As I said even single cards can give you stuttering!I'm still using the 275.33 drivers as I get the best ie smooth results from them.RegardspHMr BenSorry that didn't work ! (the reason that DX10 is probably better is because vsync may or may not work (and that can cause stutters) and the AA/AF settings are possibly better handled.) I don't guarantee that this will work but I saw some improvement.RegardspH
