March 23, 201214 yr Hey gang,I am a computer enthusiast, in that I very much like building and overclocking my own rigs. I think I enjoy that aspect of our hobby just as much as the actual flight simming itself. I can't go too long without at least putting in some new component!I have been building and overclocking my own for quite a number of years, the very first was done with an Intel Celeron 300 mhz processor, had that puppy clocked to 450 mhz lemme tell ya!Anyway, my last build is nearing the two year mark now for me - so it is definitely getting time. Specs are in sig, running an I7 920, at 4.1 ghz. Rock solid - has been running at this speed consistantly now since I built it without a glitch. Needless to say, I have been extremely pleased with this sytem, and in some ways makes me kind of hesistant to replace it - but I know that time is coming for me. At this point I guess my goal would be sometime later this year, maybe in the fall.Reading on some overclocking results/performance from you guys that have Sandy Bridge has certainly made me envious - at this point though, I think best thing for me is to skip Sandy Bridge, and go with Ivey Bridge. Some early remarks on this forum sounds promising especially in the OC department. So anyway, when I do a major chipset change such as this will be, I always do a fresh clean install of Windows. I wonder when Windows 8 will be out? Would be kind of nice to kill two birds with one stone so to speak, new system build , new install of windows, go ahead and install Win 8 at that time as well. You guys think I am probably best waiting for Ivey Bridge as well at this point? I certainly am patient, much later in the year is fine by me, but would not want to go much beyond the end of this year. Thanks, Don B
