March 30, 201214 yr Z68 has the same bugs as P67 has, so early adoption of the Z77 might have its adventages. I was thinking of ordering ASRock Z77 Extreme6. Just try something else but Asus, maybe less buggy with doubleboots, sleep modes etc.
March 31, 201214 yr Author So if I were to upgrade to either a Sandy Bridge setup (580, P67, i7 2700K) or later summer Ivy Bridge setup (680, Z77, i7 3770K) I would be better off. Of course, this assumes that I would see a significant increase going from the 920 at 4.0 to the 2700K at 4.8.Obviously the latter option is better if I can find a way to make the financial numbers work. I'll reassess between them in about 90 days to determine the pricepoints after Ivy has (hopefully) released. However, there is room for the Haswell argument. If I save money and go the Sandy route, I could later leapfrog Ivy in 2013/14 and go straight into Haswell. Again, I'll consider this when I reassess in 90 days. I will have to look at early adopters of Ivy to see if the improvement from Sandy is truely significant. But can I just drop those parts into my current setup? I'm very happy with my current build of Windows 7/FSX. I want to avoid reinstalling either at all costs. Anthony Cacciatore
March 31, 201214 yr What's gonna be so different about Haswell then? I'm thinking about waiting as usual.I will see first some Ivy reviews in fsx performance, not sure if it will be a good improvement. I have known that haswell is the one expected to outperform both sandy and ivy by a good margin.Regarding the question, I have the 3 options, can't decide.
