March 30, 201214 yr Hello everyone, I'm trying to find the best possible upgrade plan. Below are what I see as my three best options. Could you please weigh in with your opinions and experiences? Thanks. :wink:Current system:Asus P6T Deluxei7 920 Oc'ed to 4.0 GhznVidia GTX 285 1Gig12gb ram750 Watt PSUWindows 7 x64 ProOption 1Uprade to GTX 580 nowOption 2Upgrade to Ivy Bridge when availble this summerWould require a new moboOption 3Wait about 18 months and upgrade to HaswellWould require a new mobo Anthony Cacciatore
March 30, 201214 yr Option 2!! :biggrin:Also, I would reccomend the GTX660 from Nvidia. GTX660=GTX580 in speed but only will be priced around 300 bucks. It also will be available this summer.
March 30, 201214 yr Oh God. Now I heard about Intel Haswell CPU's, I'm starting to doubt wheter I should wait or not. Ah well, they will be a released around 1 1/2 year from now, and by then FSX will probably be pretty close to be buried. Arjen Vandervelde

Look at FS9 still...
March 30, 201214 yr Don't even start on Haswell! :Big Grin:FSX will be around for at least 2-3 more years.... Look at FS9 still...Why not start on Haswell? If Haswell isn't gonna be good for FSX, then we are now approaching the point of the performance limit with FSX. With Ivy Bridge, PCI 3.0 and 600 series, it ain't gonna get any better than that, unless we keep FSX forever. To return to the OP's question. I think it's too early to say yet. No one has tried Ivy Bridge with FSX yet. All 600 series graphics cards will PROBABLY perform exactly the same. Processor upgrade will be the best choice. Arjen Vandervelde
March 30, 201214 yr I don't think FSX will hit its limit for a few more generations of CPUs. Haswell will be a big turning point. - For the better or the worse is the issue at hand.

March 30, 201214 yr I wouldn't just yet drop my money on the GPU. It's still unknown what new GPUs do for FSX really. Detailed tests need to be done, by someone who knows what he's doing. That said, I would probably go mobo+cpu combo, option 2 in your post, as this is a sure very good upgrade for you.

I want to build an Ivy Bridge system in around 2 months, I will only upgrade mobo and CPU. But as always I want to wait until the newer hardware. What would you do if you had a Sandy Bridge system (which you have)? Arjen Vandervelde

You will have PCIE3 and Ivy Bridge support if you want to upgrade in the future. Just go for SB and get IB later down the road if it proves to be a viable platform.

March 30, 201214 yr Don't you think Z77 + i7 3770K will be way better. I'm getting confused... Well... You take the risk of early adoption. If you heart isn't into buying a new rig don't go for it. Wait it out and then make your desicions. - I once was impatient and had to sufffer the dreaded buyers remorse.

I think I will wait around 3 months then, until good reviews are out and people have tested it with FSX... Arjen Vandervelde
