Ram, CPU or GPU

Featured Replies

My PC SPECS are at the bottem of this page in the signature area. Looking at those specs what would you say would make my FSX expereince a lot better.... more CPU, RAM or GPU I cant get much above moderate scenery settings and when I go to fly a PMDG type panel it is a bit of a slide show. I am not comfortable overclocking.ThanksRandy

Intel I7 6700 4.0 CPU Western Digital Caviar 1TB SATA 6.0Gb/s Hard Drive  16GB DDR4 Crucial RAM. Corsair 750 Watt PSU.

1. CPU. FSX is 75% CPU dependant. AMD sucks (for FSX at least period). Get an Intel Sandy or Ivy Bridge CPU like i5 2500K or i7 3770K when released, overclock it as much as you can with aftermarket cooling.2. GPU, FSX is around 25% CPU dependant. But it's I TRIED TO USE A PROFANITY HERE - AREN'T I STUPID! that a good GPU would not make a difference. Upgrading to a GTX 560Ti (performs same as GTX 580) will give you around 30-50% FPS increase for sure3. RAM, will probably not improve FPS. However, faster RAM will make things a little smoother, less hitcing and microstuttering. I tested this myself.

Arjen... I know that you are trying ti help the OP but, that is not factual that you will get a 50% jump in performance. The only time you will ever get that kind of FPS jump is when you have a wicked fast CPU. To make good use of a fast GPU in FSX it is completely necessary to have a very fast CPU. - If not then you are wasting your money.
