Service based failures and addon aicrafts

Featured Replies

Since I love them, I'd like to know more about aircraft addons that support failures based on actual plane usage. I love them when I fly the NGX, cause you never know what might happen next. :)

I also discovered the wonderful Katana 4x, which has the same feature, and from the same developer the Do-27 (which I'm gonna get soon, since it's on sale :) ) I've checked the A2A planes and all the accusim one support progressive wear and tear, and a maintenance mode to fix it.

What else is there around? How in depth is the failure system (is it only engine wise, or may also interest other systems like hydraulic leaks, etc...)? Does it have a maintenance screen?

Thank you.

P.S. I know FSPassengers can add those, but I'm talking about individual aircrafts bringing this feature on their own.

Only some partial implementations come to my mind. You've named the brilliant A2A stuff and the Katana + Do.27, which offer a full scale of some sort.

The partial stuff would be the turbine Duke (not the piston), which offers to allow for engine failures due to overstress. The PMDG J41 also does this, even more detailed. The Aerosoft Bronco logs engine hours and 'derates' the engine power being available. Also reacting on the treatment, so you get more wear with overtorque and things.

The older but still current Aerosoft Catalina has a nice engine model, giving you headaches on the aspects of carb temp for instance. But I think there's no actual wear. However, very detailed handling of the engines, especially in bad weather. Also comes with all the issues on 'wet' spark plugs.

The Aerosoft Dimona has some failure module which looks for the engine parameters and also reacts on over-stressing. No maintenance screen or something, but a nice detail. You can also enjoy some prop physics while trying to air start the engine. That's a thing the Bronco offers too, the prop physics.

The Lotussim L-39 gives you engine outs due to overheating the thing. No logging though.

Ok, so developers have just started exploring this area then. :)

Thank you!

I would wish for that statement to be true. I think Aerosoft had some poll lately, where they asked on how important such side topics are. I didn't check in to see the outcome, but keep in mind that the folks posting here (which includes us both) may have a different view on detail levels than the ones just buying nice looking planes. So while we may appreciate the maintenance features, some other folks don't need or disable them, hence the mode switch on e.g. the Katana or the optional part with Accusim.

Ah, there it is. 223 votes. Well.. http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/51897-advanced-systems/page__pid__352402

I'm not the one stating that the one or the other group of users is better. I like every sim fan and respect their, our, enthusiasm. It's just that some forum based preference may point to a completely different direction than sheer sales numbers would do.

But as you obviously like the Katana features, make sure to check this site for the next projects from Marcel Felde. They will all include those extra items. Click on 'simulation'. http://www.marcelfelde.de/

for props you can add RealEngine
