What exactly did Lockheed Martin do with FSX?

Did they buy FSX?

Did they bought the scorce code?

Is FSX now owned by Lockheed Martin?

No, they bought the ESP license and developed it further.

 

Not the source code to FSX per se, but to ESP, which is basically FSX, but without startup screen.

 

No, FSX is still Microsoft program. LM owns Prepar3D. I'm gonna move this thread into corresponding P3D forum. Please do not discuss P3D in FSX forum.

Prepar3D does not have a User Interface like FSX does. When you run it, it will load the default flight and put you in the tarmac. The default flight after installing it is a Mooney Bravo in Norfolk.

 

You can create a flight with your favorite aircraft and airport and save it as the default flight.

They have improved the aircraft selection menu and now it is faster.

Missions are now cataloged as a special type of flight and thus they can be loaded as a default flight too.

It can also render ocean floors, which they call bathymetry, so you can operate submarines. If you are going to use only aircrafts, it is advised that you turn it off to improve performance.

A lot of the improvements are under the hood, so they are not apparent to you.

Most FSX add-ons work without problems, but you will need to do some editing in their configurations.

It does not have real weather.

 

Beyond that, it operates exactly like FSX.

Several in my opinion:

 

1. It is being debugged and developed constantly. You can get actual customer support when reporting a bug or problem.

2. A lot of the annoying FSX bugs have been resolved. That means of course that some new ones have appeared, but that's the name of the beast when developing software.

3. If you read the other threads you will see that you get a better performance than FSX. Mileage will vary between users, some say that it is a marked improvement over FSX, others say that performance is the same and a few say that it is worse. The consensus is that you get better performance.

 

I don't know if somebody else can add to this.

Is Microsoft ESP still owned by Microsoft?

There a ESP client download at http://msdn.microsof...ndex=0&FileId=0 is that Microsoft ESP?

And,is Microsoft ESP another Flight Sim?

No. Microsoft sold ESP, including the source code, to Lockheed Martin. LM renamed it Prepar3D.
