Engine Out Departures

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

Is the Engine Out departures feature simulated? I'm making some RNP procedures for SE Alaska, and many of these have special Engine Out Turns, which in the airplane are automatically selected when an engine fails.

I looked at the FCOM V2 and it talks about it, but after simulating an engine out by pulling to idle, nothing happens. I named the EO sid "EO10", on a departure off of runway 10 in Wrangel, Alaska. I then tried turning the engine off with the fuel control switch, and still nothing.

So I went into the VNAV CLB page and tried selecting ENG OUT prompt, which then asks you to select left or right engine, which I did. There does not seem to be anything else happening after, and there is no execute prompt required. In order to select the EO10 procedure I had to go into the DEP/ARR page and manually select it, then execute.

Any of the developers can shed some light on this? Do I need to use a different, special name for the EO departure procedures in the SID/STARS text file in order for the FMC to recognize it?

Thanks

No there not simulated by PMDG... I was going to do the same thing for the MD11.

The only thing you can do is select the engine out SID before takeoff and place it in the secondary flight plan

but the NGX does not have a Route 2 option, so how else can it be done?

I don't think Wrangel has an EO-SID. You would just follow the directions on the SID and then enter the appropriate fixes in the fix page. Do you have the HABNA1 charts? The HABNA1 has the setup info. RW, for that departure you'd follow what they call a RNP TPRO, not an EO-SID.

The rnp is not simulated so it cant be done.

Hi Matt

Yes, I have coded the HABNA1 SID. I have been testing using the EO10 SID at the bottom, and it works perfect. You just have to manually select it, that is all. After selecting it, you link the legs page to the next WP before executing and it works seamless. The real FMC might not have it coded, but the problem is that since I won't include the charts in my upload, users will have no other way of knowing about the EO procedure. I know the chart has you putting in radials in the fix page and flying it that way.

I know, low altitude with an engine out is no time to be going head's down to do some typing, but in PAWG's case, it might be the lesser of two evils. It is too bad the FMC doesn't select it automatically though, that would be really cool.
