Flight may have killed my laptop - starting over?

Recommended Posts

Well, I have seen many of you in the multiplayer rooms and I was already level 20 with over 40 hours of flight time (probably close to 60). My work laptop which met minimum requirements (barely) struggled to keep up and no matter what I would try, would always run real hot if Flight was running. Well, now I have complete hard drive failure. The IT guys at work are struggling to figure out what could cause a catastrophic drive failure (oops).

So, I know many of us have had the issue where we had to start over on the first mission. I did backup my career folder about a week ago to a network drive. Do I just copy the entire folder of careers to Flight and completely overwrite the career folder? Do I do this before I login with Microsoft Live and play the game once or do it right after install?

I do not want this moved to the Hardware forum but unless I buy an Alien laptop, not sure I will ever get the graphics card needed in a laptop to fully take advantage of the amazing Hawaii scenery. That concern come secondary to me getting to pick up where I left off in the game.....

Sorry to hear about your hard drive failure. Bummer.

This is what I would do, of course using the same gamertag

Set up Flight again on the new drive, at least start the first mission and then exit the game.

Download and install all DLC content (if any) using GFWL Client -> Downloads

Make backup copy of all career files (from the new install, just to be safe)

Then overwrite only the career files from the career folder. There should be 20 total.

(I would not overwrite any other files.)

Good Luck

I just done this step and all work:

- Reinstall flight and all dlc

- Launch flight and make sure to login in live, the cloud profile will be downloaded

- Play the two dummie missions, the first lesson and the coconut bra mission ^_^

- exit flight and replace all career files that you backuped (make a backup before overwrite)

I'm back exactly where I was before the format

Too late for me of course. I lost most of my career weeks ago, but didnt mind. I actually would like to start over from scratch!

Now my new laptop is running real hot. I am thinking that I need to move this over to a desktop PC.

Your work's IT department might appreciate that as well.
