April 14, 201214 yr Hi, I currently run an older Intel core 2 duo E7400 at 2,8ghz. Coupled with an ATI Radeon 6850. It gets rather choppy in FSX when things get busy. I thought that if I upgraded to a core i5 2500 (needs a new mobo with RAM too) I would be in the clear? But it appears this might not be the case? I keep reading about system with the "k" variant of the 2500 processor at draconian Ghz levels and stil not way up their with the FPS... You think a core i5 2500 will be a big improvement over the E7400 in FSX? Is there any CPU out there that does well with stock speeds? I hate overclocking and water cooling and whatnot coolers.
April 14, 201214 yr Try the 2500k bud. It can overclock more than the 2500. And if you do, you still have to use this to get more performance from FSX. You can also wait and get Ivy Bridge and then use the same thing. Alex Leung Aerospace Engineering Undergraduate Glider & Private Pilot via Royal Canadian Air Cadets

April 14, 201214 yr Try a combo: 2500k + 560ti (580 if you can afford) and 8gb ram. That performs really well in FSX. I'll be bringing a hardware guide soon out, so look out for that.

So close dammit, I originally wanted the 2500k but I realized that my computer would cost over $2000 or so. I do have the 560 Ti and 8 GB Ram though. April 15, 201214 yr Too bad. 2500k would have been way better option. ikr? Should've researched more lol. Planning to get Ivy Bridge. Gonna wait till middle of May or early June before I make my decision as I think I need a new motherboard.
