Laptop Is Faster With Lower Spec Hardware Than 6 Core Amd And R9 Gpu
Hi, Last year I bought an AMD FX6300 @ 3.5Ghz, Turbo up to 4.1Ghz (technically a 3 core 6 thread CPU) and recently an R9 270 GPU. It greatly improved performance in FSX compared to a previous old core2duo. Even better in Prepar3D. Recently I got an Acer laptop, thin and portable with only moderate casual gaming in mind, it has a Core i5-4200U @ 1.6Ghz, Turbo up to 2.6Ghz (a 2 core CPU with 4 threads) with an NVIDIA GT750M GPU (in optimus) and in turns out that this laptop runs just as good if not sometimes better than my main desktop rig? I compared settings and loaded up addon scenery with addon aircraft and the FPS is mostly similar (in Prepar3D) In FSX the desktop is somewhat faster but also not much. In other first person shooter games (BF4) or Watch_Dogs the desktop rig is considerably better, but still the laptop is not too far behind if I slightly dial down details. Now I am wondering, are games so well optimized these days or is AMD just really bad? I know vishera/piledriver and whatnot wasnt a hit but I didnt expect it to almost lose out to a mobile CPU found in ultrabooks.... this i5 is the U version with low TDP.... Also I recall usi some msi tool to see CPU core usage in-game and it was constantly dropping and rising, I have a low end ASUS mainboard could this be a bottleneck and have trouble handling the FX CPU?

Catalyst 13.9 not working and subsequent catastrophy

Catalyst 13.9 not working and subsequent catastrophy
Lawk replied to abax2000's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcAlso got word from AMD! "I am pleased to inform you that AMD Driver Engineering is currently working on a solution which will be made available in an upcoming driver." sounds good. Hope it comes out in a beta 9 of the 13.11 orso. I guess I will upgrade from 6850 to 7870 for a possible GTA5 after all. With no FSX fix I would be forced to go NVIDIA but it seems like AMD will fix it soon  B)

Catalyst 13.9 not working and subsequent catastrophy
Lawk replied to abax2000's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcNo. crashes atiumdag.dll in DX9. At least the most popular payware aircraft. I have told AMD about this problem. It would be great if others do the same so they take this seriously.

Windows 8 - Joystick Megathread problem.
Odd. I have been running FSX on Windows 8 for a long time now and I never ran into this issue ever. Not on my old, not on my new system. Same Joystick. Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. But I only use Aerosoft Airbus X with various sceneries, no PMDG.

16:9 Panel no CIVA INS or ISG
Then everything is black except the gauges.

Blackbox Airbus
I think I will hold off for a month or two until patches start rolling out, fixing major issues. Is it true that you can't change heading and speed in the VC as someone suggested? that would be a fatal flaw imho.

16:9 Panel no CIVA INS or ISG
I have the 1.40 update. that's what I mean, there is no panel cfg for 177 widescreen with no addons.

16:9 Panel no CIVA INS or ISG
Hi, I don't have any of the addons yet (CIVA/ISG). How can I make a panel.cfg for the standard plane with SP177 autopilot but widescreen? by default it seems to be the SP177 with a 4:3 Panel.

Upgrade for FSX
Hi, I currently run an older Intel core 2 duo E7400 at 2,8ghz. Coupled with an ATI Radeon 6850. It gets rather choppy in FSX when things get busy. I thought that if I upgraded to a core i5 2500 (needs a new mobo with RAM too) I would be in the clear? But it appears this might not be the case? I keep reading about system with the "k" variant of the 2500 processor at draconian Ghz levels and stil not way up their with the FPS... You think a core i5 2500 will be a big improvement over the E7400 in FSX? Is there any CPU out there that does well with stock speeds? I hate overclocking and water cooling and whatnot coolers.
