  1. Hello guys, I am looking at the HP pavillion desktop PC's as they are in my price range. One of the PC's come with intel core i7-6700 Processor and the other comes with an i5-6400. The i5 processor is obviously cheaper!. Apart from that, they are almost identical and both have intel HD integrated 530 graphics. The 530 is a mid range iGPU and should be okay since fsx is heavily coded for CPU usage. My question is: is the £130 extra spend worth it for better fsx frame rates and performance. I will probably use aerosoft airbus and PMDG as well as UK2000 scenery. I want at least 20-25FPS. Is the i7 with higher clock speed and hyperthreading better than the cheaper i5 with no hyperthreading? Here are the rest of the specs: Operating system: Windows 10 Home 64 Processor Chipset: Intel H110 Processor speed: 3.4 GHz Processor family: 6th Generation Intel® Core™ i7 processor Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-6700 (3.4 GHz, up to 4 GHz, 8 MB cache, 4 cores) Hard drive: 128 GB SATA SSD Hard drive (2nd): 2 TB 5400 rpm SATA Graphics: Intel® HD Graphics 530 Graphics: Integrated Network interface: Integrated 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN Wireless: 802.11a/b/g/n/ac (1x1) and Bluetooth® 4.0 combo Ports1 USB 2.0 1 headphone/microphone combo 2 USB 2.0 4 USB 3.0 1 audio in 1 audio out 1 microphone in Expansion slots: 1 PCIe x1 1 PCIe x16 1 M.2 Memory: 8 GB DDR3L-1600 SDRAM (2 x 4 GB) Memory slots: 2 DIMM Memory and storage: 8 GB memory 2 TB HDD storage 128 GB SSD storage http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=Y6V31EA&opt=ABU&sel=DTP or http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=Y4K56EA&opt=ABU&sel=DTP
  2. Hello, I recently bought new hardware for my pc,but i dont know if i am performing good or bad. Specs: CPU:Intel 4770 GPU:AMD 280X RAM:8GB 1 HDD Drive No overclocking I get aprox. 20 fps with almost full graphics,in a pmdg 737 on schiphol, aerosoft scenery. I have traffic turned off. What do you think?
  3. Hi all, I'm looking to buy a new PC to get a better simming experience using Prepar3d V3 and the usual add-ons (PMDG aircraft, OrbX scenery,REX Soft Clouds, Active sky Next and airport scenery). I am thinking of buying a PC with these specs: Geforce GTX 750 TI GPU I5 4690K CPU 8GB DDR3 RAM 500 GB Sata2 Harddisk Gigabyte H81M Motherboard 550 Watt PSU Cooler master 342 Case (I'm not able to overclock because my dad doesn't allow it) This is pretty much the limit of my budget (because I'm only 15). Do you think this is the best I can get for my budget or do I need to downgrade something to upgrade something else? I hope you can help me. Best wishes, Bart
  4. Hi guys, I need your help, I want to upgrade my system, but I don't know what to do, I'm using an AMD Fx 4350 (which is really bad), but as you know this is so weak, it doesnt run FSX with a proper FPS,so I decided to upgrade, my budget isnt the best, so I wont buy an Intel core i7 4770k, I cant. I readed about intel processors are better (talking about fsx), but I've seens some videos, people using AMD Fx 8350, and FSX running good. So, my options are: 1) Intel Core i3 4150, It's obviously that I have to buy another board, and I don't know if it's gonna be problem, I dont know if I'm going to have some kind of problem with the two cores it has. 2) AMD Fx 9370, I dont have to buy another motherboard, and if FSX runs good on Fx 8350, this should be better. So guys, help me please, do not tell me things like: ''oh no buy the i5-4670k, buy the i7 4790k'' because I dont really have the money. Regards.
  5. Would these computer specs work well in fsx (thinking of building a custom pc) Intel i7 3770K (3.5 Ghz 3.9 Ghz Boost) Asus P8P67 Deluxe Motherboard EVGA 760Ti 2 gb Graphics card 200gb SSD 8GB DDR3 Memory 850 Watt Power Supply I am still deciding on a case, any recommendations are welcome
  6. Hi everyone. In next days i will build up a new pc for P3D v4. I've a budget of 900euros. I chose a I5 8500 from intel, a gtx 1060 6gb 16gb ram ddr4 an ssd of 250gb and hdd 1tb. I run P3D always with the graphic settings set to mid-high and i use payware scenery and aircraft. I know that for P3D the CPU is very important, Can you tell me if the i5 8500 of 3GHZ is a good choise for fly around 30fps? If no can you advise me any other good cpu for run p3d v4? Thank you in advance!
  7. Hello everyone, This is my first post on this forum. Have been flying fsx on laptops for 5+ years. Just finished my airline pilot training and now about to order a custom build. I have lot's of questions... Please find the build specs in the PDF attached. This was proposed by the company who will build it. PC Flight Sim 2014.pdf Right now the build is an I5 4670k, 8GB corsair 1600mhz, (GTX 660 2GB), Asus B85M-e 1. Win7 vs Win8 : I am used to Win7. If Win8 is better for performance, I would consider it. The shop says that the price is the same.. 2. P3DV2 vs FSX: Never tried P3D... I just want stability and frame rates. With Opusfsx, PMDG, Carenado and some scenery. 3. SSD??: Do I need this? I have one in my laptop. But if the performance is not really affected in flight sims, I will take a WD HDD The last question is related to the P3D vs FSX: 4. GTX660 or better?: Since P3Dv2 uses more GPU, is it worth dropping the SSD and adding better gpu? Or is this fine? I want my pc to be balanced for flight sim. Any help would be appreciated Kind regards
  8. Hi guys, I know this topic has been discussed before but I can't quite find the answer I am looking for. People say Haswell processors work better than Ivy Bridge, but is it right when it comes to FSX or is it the other way around? The reason I am asking because an i7 4770K and i7 4820 costs same amount but the second one can be overcooked to 5.0 GHz and above where as the Haswell chip can only be over clocked to 4.3 Ghz I suppose. I am looking for high resolution with high frame rate so which processor I should go for? Many thanks, Ronnie
  9. Hello gents. After a meltdown efficiently destroying my i7 950 (unclocked, go figure), the company I bought it from is sending me a new CPU. They would only provide the 3820, even though I requested the 2700k or 3770k. Even though 3820 isn't a K-cpu, it's partially unlocked, so in terms of OC, I'll manage to raise the clock a bit. However, I'm curious as to if anyone here has tried the 3820 with FSX, either stock clock or OC? I wanna know what to expect from this CPU. Thanks!
  10. What do you think, what kind of FPS I will gain from upgrading from FX-8350 to i5-7600K? I have a GTX 770 video card. With PMDG 737, Orbx etc.
  11. Does P3D v4 support octa core or hex core process as well as quad core cpu? I am currently using the i7 7700k, which is a 4 core 8 thread. However, if p3d supports Octa Core process , I'll purchase an 8 core 16 thread, the Rizen 1700x. I would like to hear advice from those who have used Hex Core or Octa Core in p3d. Thanks.
  12. Hello avsim! Yes I'm very new to all of this. But from the time I loaded FSX onto my computer, I was hooked! Now before you judge the title... yes I know there have been thousands of topics on this but, please listen to what I have to say. I purchased a MacBook Pro last fall, before school started, it's my baby! I purchased the 13-inch model for portability, and processor speed. Before I go any further here are the specs: 13-inch (Early 2011) MacBook Pro 2nd Generation Intel CORE i7 dual core (four virtual cores) processor 2.7GHz-3.4GHz max turbo dependant upon active cores (i7-2620M) Intel HD 3000 Graphics Processor (on CPU chip) 500GB HDD @5400 RPM (partitioned in half for Mac OS X, and windows) I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit installed in a 250GB BootCamp partition. Now to my question. I love using the PMDG 737 NGX, right now I have the high-res textures installed in the VC, and I'm getting 11-12 fps at Fly Tampa's Tampa Rebooted add-on scenery. Outside the VC in spot view I get 25-30fps. I have learned that I can install an external GPU via a Thunderbolt port (Lightpeak). If I were to install a Nvidia GTX 570, and overclock it, plus add 4GB-8GB more RAM, and possibly an SSD, would I see significant improvement in fps? I would not be running REX, or anything else, just the NGX, and add-on airports. I realize my current GPU is not the best, but my processor does fairly well, and with everything but the CPU replaceable, I'm stuck with it, and no way to overclock it. I would even be willing to opt for the 580, or 590 if it would guarantee me more fps. This is getting long... wow. I'm just looking to increase my fps to 20+ in the NGX's VC. The only thing I cannot change is my CPU, or its speed. Please help, all post are greatly appreciated, thank you! I also wish to use an external monitor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
  13. I am getting a new laptop and I was wondering how it would run FSX on medium settings. Here are the specs. intel core i7-3610QM 2.3Ghz 8gb of DDr3 ram Nvidia GeForce GT630M Beats integrated audio The link to the computer http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11762761&whse=BC&Ne=5000136+4000000&eCat=BC%7C84%7C56670&N=4047229%204294899772&Mo=23&No=20&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ns=P_Price%7C1%7C%7CP_SignDesc1〈=en-US&Sp=C If you have any other suggestions keep them under 900$.
  14. Hi, Last year I bought an AMD FX6300 @ 3.5Ghz, Turbo up to 4.1Ghz (technically a 3 core 6 thread CPU) and recently an R9 270 GPU. It greatly improved performance in FSX compared to a previous old core2duo. Even better in Prepar3D. Recently I got an Acer laptop, thin and portable with only moderate casual gaming in mind, it has a Core i5-4200U @ 1.6Ghz, Turbo up to 2.6Ghz (a 2 core CPU with 4 threads) with an NVIDIA GT750M GPU (in optimus) and in turns out that this laptop runs just as good if not sometimes better than my main desktop rig? I compared settings and loaded up addon scenery with addon aircraft and the FPS is mostly similar (in Prepar3D) In FSX the desktop is somewhat faster but also not much. In other first person shooter games (BF4) or Watch_Dogs the desktop rig is considerably better, but still the laptop is not too far behind if I slightly dial down details. Now I am wondering, are games so well optimized these days or is AMD just really bad? I know vishera/piledriver and whatnot wasnt a hit but I didnt expect it to almost lose out to a mobile CPU found in ultrabooks.... this i5 is the U version with low TDP.... Also I recall usi some msi tool to see CPU core usage in-game and it was constantly dropping and rising, I have a low end ASUS mainboard could this be a bottleneck and have trouble handling the FX CPU?
  15. Hey guys, new to this forum but not so FSX! I'm building my own PC (soon) but I still can't decide between an Intel 4440 paired with a GTX 750Ti, or an AMA 6300 paired with an AMD R7 265... Could you guys help me? I do a mix between gaming and video editing and my budget is £700 or less (including monitor, win 8). I'm upgrading from my ancient Dell Inspiron 530 on the LGA 775 with a Core 2 Duo E7200 and an ATI Radeon 5450. Both systems have 8GB 1600MHz RAM. I also apologise for the layout (using an iPhone to type this). Thank you!

  17. Hi Simmers, I currently have a Phenom II X6 1045T that cannot be overclocked because of my weak mobo. I want to upgrade this PC so it is dedicated to flight sim. Yes I know its best that i get a i5 or i7 K processor, but i simply cannot afford that due to shipping cost from America to here I live. So which should I get? Budget at absolute peak for CPU and Mobo is $210US AMD FX6300 + Mobo = $201US Intel i3 3220 + Mobo = $185 US Any opinions ????? I only want fsx to run PMDG's, REX, and GEX smoothly enough. I will NOT be using any payware airports or scenery and will be using WOAI traffic. I also dont plan maxing out the sliders. The only one that will be maxed are LOD. The rest will be middle to middle-high Thanks
  18. I've read a lot of posts in this forum but can't find many that deal with my lowly i3-2100-3.1GHz. Many non-FSX sites post benchmarks that I suspect reflect multi-core optimized apps which we know FSX is not. The FSMarks thread has so few i3 entries. If this q has been answered already, I'd appreciate a link to the post. Thanks! So... I don't have the skillz, time, money etc to take on the risks and equipment of OC'ing so I simply want to know if dropping in an i5 or i7 in place of my i3 will make much of a difference in framerate. By tweaking fsx.cfg, video settings, and game settings, it seems like I can work with my existing gfx card for now. It does seem like I am CPU bound for the most part. I'm at 15fps in busy airports and cloudy skies, Track IR, Active Sky 2012. I'd like 25. Since the stock Hz isn't much different between all 3 chips, will moving up make much of a difference? Do the "Turbo" Hz make a practical difference as well or is that marketing fluff? Track IR and AS2012 don't use much CPU but I suppose there will be a little gain if they get their own cores... Thanks Clark PS I have a z68 chipset MB.
  19. Hi guys, In the next few days i am going to gradually buy new hardware for FSX. I'm currently running... AMD FX6300 @4.4ghz Nvidia GTX 960 2GB 1TB HDD 16GB DDR3 @1800mhz. The new build will be... Intel i7 6700K Asus Z170 Pro gaming Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB DDR4 3000 MHz CL15 XMP. GTX 960 2GB I am thinking of getting an SSD for FSX steam but have a few questios. 1) what benefits does an SSD have in FSX steam? 2) is it easy to transfer windows 10 to my new PC? 3) I have well over 20GB add ons for fsx on my hdd, can i transfer them over or will i have to re download them all? 4) Because I have FSX steam does that mean I have to reinstall steam and FSX onto the SSD? 5) final question ... I run UT2 at 35% and Fly UK traffic at 20% along with ORBX regions, 737 NGX, PMDG 777, Aerosoft EGLL and captain sims 757 and 767. Im not expecting to get 100fps with these add ons but would the new hardware come close to giving me a smooth flight? especially from EGLL? Its not 4am... lol, I think ive googled everything i can but still cant find the answers hoping someone can help.
  20. Hey guys! I'm planning on buying a new computer, partly for Prepar3d (v2.5, going to be upgraded). I was thinking about following components, as I'm still on a certain budget: - Intel i7 6700K - Asus Z170-K Mainboard - GeForce GTX 960 4GB - 250 GB Samsung SSD - 1 TB Hard Drive - 600W PSU - Water Cooling. Cost: €1100. My main concerns are the GPU and the mainboard. I want to play P3d with addons like the Aerosoft A318/319 or A2A GA Aircraft on high settings with at least 30 pfs, among that I will also use the PC for CAD work, video editing and music production. Therefor the question: Should I invest in like a GTX970 (which is even older than the 960) or even the Radeon RX 480? And is the mainboard capable of handling it all? Also: Is 600 Watts enough power for the system? Thanks in advance for your help! Kris
  21. Hello everyone, I wonder if I could get somebody's opinion on something. I was looking at getting the intel i7 6700k cpu to upgrade my desktop which is now extremely old and really struggles running fsx even on low settings. The problem is the i7 6700k is quite expensive and I can't find it bundled with a motherboard and don't really feel like having to attach it myself and having to find the right motherboard. However I managed to find a upgrade kit which includes the intel i7 6700 already on a motherboard which also comes with 8gb of ddr4 ram. I was wondering how well the i7 6700 can run fsx with addon aircraft such as Pmdg and Aerosoft and addon scenery such as UK2000 and Aerosoft? I am not too worried about having tons of autogen and I am mostly looking for around 30fps at least, would this cpu be able to do this? Bailey
  22. Hey there, I am looking to build a new rig around my 980ti and I was wondering where processors are for p3d. The jury around the web is that the higher clock speed of the 6700k is best for gaming, however, we still use a very cpu intensive sim. If I were to build a pc would having more cpu cores (intel 5820k) be more future proof and better for P3d over the skylake 6700k? Kind regards, Alex
  23. So after flying on FSX for the past few years, I've decided to update my tank of a laptop and invest in a new Desktop to run P3D. So far I've roughly built up these specs, trying to keep in mind that i don't want to spend to much and also get the best for the buck. Intel Core i7-4790K @4.0Ghz ASUS Z97-A EVGA GTX 970 FTW ACX 2.0 Corsair 750D Western Digital Blue 1 TB HDD Samsung 850 EVO 120GB SSD Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600 Mem. Asus 24x DVD-RW Serial-ATA Internal OEM Optical Drive Corsair H80i Hydro CPU cooler With these specs in mind I stumble to find a cheap Power supply that gives me at least 750W. I'd like to have everyone opinions on computer parts you recommend and what power supply would be best for me. Thanks you!
  24. I have posted a topic on flightsim.com about my FPS problem and I write this to see if any of the AVSIM members can solve my problem. Thanks in advance. The link to the Flight Sim post: http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?284649-Low-FPS-when-on-FSX-High-FPS-when-on-another-window-Help
  25. I finally took the plunge and upgraded my system from the AMD 965 Black Edition to the new Ivy Bridge i7-3770K with some GSkill TridentX Ram (2666!!) and the Sabertooth MB w/Z77 chipset. I did a fresh format of my FSX SSD and my System SSD. I have not done any overclocking .... yet !!! I have just reinstalled FSX, and of course my first add-on was the NGX. I haven't done any FSX tweaks, and just for kicks, I loaded up the NGX at my home base. It loaded fast as hell, but the visuals were horrific. All I can say is I really must have had the other install really dialed in. I just realized the scope of the work ahead of me (and this is after two and a half days of building a new computer, etc.). The hardest part of all this is trying to decide which steps to do in what order. Wish me luck, I'll keep you posted. P.S. For Zach ... you were right ... AMD is Cr*p P.S.S. I am getting some pmdg.dll app crashes AFTER exiting. I guess that'll all come out in the wash. I have a lot of forum searching to do. ugh!
