Upgrading CPU

Featured Replies

What do you think, what kind of FPS I will gain from upgrading from FX-8350 to i5-7600K? I have a GTX 770 video card. With PMDG 737, Orbx etc.

You probably mean i5-7600K, the Kaby Lake i5?

In P3D world (and FSX too), it just too damn hard to predict. Impossible really.

It all depends about the balance of the system right now. Is CPU doing 100%, and GPU is only at 30%, then you will get quite some boost. If GPU is doing 100%, then probably 0.

As said, depends...

Your topic might be better suited in the HW forum though.

I think it's too soon to make that kind of comparison as there currently isn't all that much test data available for the 7600K. But, for a look as to how the 8350 stacks up against other Intel chips this is a pretty good guide:  https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+FX-8350+Eight-Core . The important thing to remember about CPU performance with either P3D or FSX is that the single most important factor is the performance of the CPU when running a single-threaded application. And the 4790K is still the best, as of now, in that regard. All I can really say is that the 7600K will definitely be a better performer than the 8350 but there is no way, at this point, to guesstimate the difference. The real question is how will the 7600K perform single-threaded against the 4790K....Doug
