April 16, 201214 yr Hi everyone, Now im guessing this question has been asked before, because upon using a google search theres lots of information flagged up from this forum but the links are dead, so apologise in advance if this has already been covered; Ok, so heres my info and problems; I recently completely re-booted by laptop with the intention of solely using it for FSX + PMDG 737NGX. I am running windows vista. I installed FSX using the guidelines set out by PMDG. I installed FSX as follows. installed to C:\FSX. Then followed the guidelines on installing the SP1 and SP2. Rebooted the laptop etc. Upon trying to install the PMDG 737 package the installation wizard starts then the following error message shows: 'unable to locate fsx.exe. unable to install' I have tried everything. Running FSX as admin. Running PMDG installer as admin. Completely uninstalling SP2, SP1 and FSX, then reinstalling, still happens. I used the flight1 registry fix tool but that doesnt work either?! I'd really appreciate some help as I spent the £45 on the addon and am excited about using it. Thanks all Gareth
April 16, 201214 yr Hi Gareth Look in your C:\FSX folder. Within that root folder, you should have that missing fsx.exe(it'll have the FSX icon). If you do not see it, then your install did not go according to plan and would suggest you re-install FSX. Upon uninstalling run a registry cleaner to get rid of any detritus. You only need the PMDG737 SP2c and the main PMDG 737 installer Rick Almeida
April 16, 201214 yr Author vc10man, Thanks for the prompt response. Yes the FSX.exe icon is there. The FSX installation was perfect, runs fine and all the files are right (been flight simming for years now so i can tell). Even when I run the suggested flight1 resgistry fix tool, the fsx.exe icon shows, I click it and it says it has repaired the registry. Yet even then, the PMDG installer flags the same message; unable to locate fsx.exe. Any thoughts? tearing my hair out now been working on fixing this for 2 days now! All the best
April 16, 201214 yr Hi Gareth. Can you try creating a free flight with another aircraft, such as the default Airbus A321 and see if you get the same error that the PMDG aircraft flags up? Rick Almeida
April 16, 201214 yr Hello Gareth: Go to Flight 1, download and run the "Registry Repair Tool". This tool will repair your FSX or FS9 registry so that the path is valid. This probably will fix your issue http://www.flight1.com/view.asp?page=library - Roger
April 16, 201214 yr Author vc10, FSX is running fine! loaded up the A321 in free flight without a hitch. The PMDG installer cant find the FSX directry. Its there, is there a way i can manually select the FSX.exe for the PMDG intstaller? As when i run the installer is gives then message; unable to locate fsx.exe then closes down?! Roger, already tried that many times. Did it and the message said it was successful. Yet when I run the PMDG installer the problem still persists. The aggrovating thing is is that I cant conact PMDG directly - it seems that it just will not install on my computer so I want a refund if this isnt going to work, but as for the lack of contact details for PMDG i cant see that i will be able to get a refund. Dissapointed because on my old laptop I was regularly flying the PMDG 747 and loved every minute and was really looking forward to getting to grips with the 73! Gareth
April 16, 201214 yr Gareth, all I can helpfully suggest having read your response to others including me trying our best to help you, maybe you should submit a ticket to PMDG if as you say the default flight loads ok, and you have tried the other suggestions. Refund you will definitely NOT get because it is a download and you agreed to the EULA. Name is as per the signature. Rick Almeida
April 16, 201214 yr Author Thanks Rick. Do you think its worth rebooting my laptop again to factory settings. Installing FSX. then install SP1, then SP2. Then have another go? Its my only remaining option i think? Any thoughts?
April 16, 201214 yr I don't think you need to go through all those hassles. Because, as you have already told us, the FSX installations works ok; you repaired the Registry with Flight1's tool;the default A321 works ok; so all that is left is the PMDG. Which is why I suggested you save time and submit a Support Ticket via your PMDG account to them. They are pretty good at replying and coming up with an answer. If they cannot sort you out, maybe then only as a last resort should you think of the other options. Rick Almeida
April 16, 201214 yr Author Thanks Rick, submitted a ticket, I will let you know what comes of it. Gareth
