April 18, 201214 yr Since making a complete re-installation of FSX whenever I start RC\run the plan\General button I am presented with the Runway selection/suggestion in the GATE box whilst the runway box is empty.... I never had this before the uninstall/re-install and it is not like that on my lap-top FSX/RC. I am running MakeRws v4.6.0.0. and FSUIPC v4.8.1.0. This is not a major concern and I simply enter the relevant details as required - just curious as to why this might be happening.............. April 18, 201214 yr I assume you are talking about the Controller tab in RC after a plan is loaded. If an airport is not towered with a ground control frequency then I think the Gate box will be grayed out, otherwise it should be available. The same might apply to runway selection which is a dropdown of available runways detected from the scenery. The Gate can be any alpha-numeric characters and are not depended on gates detected in scenery. It will be phonetically spoken if there is a ground service or tower service. I just tried a KMDW to KPLN plan load. KMDW has all expected frequencies but KPLN shows none except Unicom meaning it is uncontrolled. You can enter a runway but no gate for KPLN. At an uncontrolled airfield RC center will set you up for some kind of arrival and then terminate radar control services meaning you are on your own to finish a published approach. If there is a remote approach you'll be treated similarly but without a tower you are on your own in final and taxiing.

Ronzie, Maybe I didn't express myself well :( Yes it is in the Controller tab - my mistake - see the Gate box has a runway designation in it !!! Like I say, it is not a major issue - just curious as to how this might be happening since the reinstallation of FSX? Does not occurr on my lap-top or the other PC.......... April 19, 201214 yr AFAIK, there is no gate file used with RC nor gate field in r4.csv in the data folder. I'd run the scenery rebuild again. Is this just jfk or other airports. Was an RC save flight used for for a flight plan for kjfk? Look for an .rcd file in your Flight Simulator X Files in your documents folder. Departure positions in the test FSX flight plans I use with fsbuild are the runways. I don't have a planner that allows a gate starting point. Is your kjfk an add-on or default. RC4 does not use the g5.csv files created by makerwys in your fsx folder. You also should make sure RC is version4 build 3845.

I use FSCommander for flight planning and save to FS, RC and FSC..... Each time I add any scenery files I run the scenery rebuild...... KJFK in my FSX is an "add-on" AFX file placed in Add-on Scenery\Scenery..... This "odd" situation occurrs at ALL times at EVERY airfield when RC is started in THIS PC since the re-installation of FSX..... When loading FSX, I select a gate/stand to position the aircraft.......I need to do this to conform to my VA's live flight tracker which requires a cold, dark start from a gate before it will start recording........I then select a gate in the Control tab so that I can advise RC "Skyways 1142 at "x" requesting...." The only difference here is that on the lap-top FSX was installed together with RC at the same time to a partitioned drive. The reinstallation of FSX on this PC was to a dedicated FS-drive with RC on the C:\ drive that was installed quite some time ago! Thing is - it worked perfectly prior to the reinstallation...........??? Ken ;) Old enough to know better... ...young enough to do most of it again! April 20, 201214 yr I'm clueless. Maybe jd can spot something if you send a log in. Are your departure and arrival runway dropdowns OK? Are running FSC active for the moving map? Anyway all I can suggest is a reinstall of RC. If you do it on the same drive your current key should be good. The gate function only provides a controller speaking feature. RC4 does not move your aircraft by gate nor provide progressive taxi instructions. All you get is a taxi from or taxi to phrase. Are you running monitoring software for your VA? Does this happen when that is not used? RC should not affect the monitoring software. As far as methods go for C&D I have several parked C&D flights saved and if I change location I still don't have this problem under FS9. All my FS stuff is on the same drive with win, etc. I only use an HD cartridge drive (as my main is) for cloning backups. Try sending in a log referring to this thread.
April 20, 201214 yr I just spotted this fs9 plan on another forum: [flightplan] AppVersion=9.1.40901 title=VHHX to VHHX description=VHHX,VHHX type=IFR routetype=0 cruising_altitude=6000 departure_id=VHHX, N22* 19.02', E114* 12.16', +000000.00 departure_position=gate 5 destination_id=VHHX, N22* 18.63', E113* 53.81', +000019.00 departure_name=Hong Kong Intl destination_name=Hong Kong Int'l (Old) waypoint.0=, VHHX, , VHHX, A, N22* 19.02', E114* 12.16', +000000.00, waypoint.1=VH, SC, , SC, N, N22* 19.20', E114* 7.93', +000025.00, waypoint.2=VH, TAMOT, , TAMOT, I, N22* 21.50', E113* 52.00', +000000.00, waypoint.3=VH, CH, , CH, V, N22* 13.18', E114* 1.79', +000330.00, waypoint.4=VH, W, , W, I, N22* 2.60', E114* 30.40', +000000.00, waypoint.5=VH, TP, , TP, N, N22* 14.35', E114* 17.26', +000023.00, waypoint.6=, VHHX, , VHHX, A, N22* 19.02', E114* 12.16', +000000.00, Note there is a gate in the departure_position. It was created with the FS9 planner by the poster. My plans all list the take-off runway set in FSBuild whether used or not as departure_position but RC does not pull these into the gate field but in this case RC showed the departure position in the gate field. The plan did not load correctly because I don't have VXXX in my scenery. So, my conclusion is that RC will pay attention to the departure_position for the gate field if shown in the .pln file but should not pay attention to the runway for the gate field when the runway is the departure_position in the .pln. departure_position of just a runway number is ignored or maybe RC compares it to the runway data it has. jd would have to answer that. I would recheck the path you put in for a scenery rebuild so the planner and RC are using the same data. I think it was FSC but not sure that it was stated looks at scenery only in the Add-On scenery folder and not any other folder you might use of your choice unlike the scenery library setup. RC strictly follows the scenery setup. Post in a reply here a paste of a flight plan giving you this problem. There might be a discrepancy due to add-on scenery runway renumbering in the case of what RC sees (per scenery.cfg) and what FSC uses. That would apply if RC compares runway listings to reject a runway number as a gate.
April 21, 201214 yr Author Ron, thanks for your continued interest/input :) At least it has kept you off the streets for a while :) I am going to make a new installation of RC. I was merely interested in why this should be happening - it is not that imoportant and can be rectified easily by inserting new details. The fact that everything else is identical on the lap-top and with the previous FSX install means (to me) that the plan has nothing to do with the issue at hand. The Gate departure for the VA on-line flight tracking software ios not included in te actual "flight" plan details and only set in the initial FSX window for location. If I have any more issues I shall certainly come back to you - don't panic, I'm sure it will be OK with re-installation :) Ken ;) Old enough to know better... ...young enough to do most of it again!
