April 23, 200422 yr Hi all. I am spending 5 weeks in Spain (this is what happens when you get retired), but didn't leave without my notebook ( a Sony Vaio PCG-GRT716S, 2.8 GHz P4, 768 MB RAM, GeForce FX GO5600 with 64MB RAM). While flying FS2004 from Denver to the West I was experiencing continuously CTD after 30 to 45 minutes. I moved my FS9.cfg file to another place on my HD and let FS2K4 create a new one. The CTD were gone. So, I started putting back my saved FS9.CFG file, section by section, and found out that I could get rid of the CTD by making the following changes to 2 items in the Weather section:CLOUD_DRAW_DISTANCE=8 CHANGE TO 43D_CLOUD_PERCENT=100DETAILED_CLOUDS=1CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=6CloudsImpostorRingRadius=128000.000000 CHANGE TO 64000.000000This post is not meant as a cure, it's just an observation of how I got rid of the CTD on my system. It may or may not work for you.I am in Spain until May 6 and in between I can only access the web once a week (generally on friday when I go downtown), so I won't be able to answer any question you might have until next friday.J.J. April 23, 200422 yr So I'm now wondering why mine is set to 96000.000000 as I don't remember changing it, unless one of the display or other menu options affects that setting.
April 23, 200422 yr Those settings are controlled by the display menu options. It stands to reason that reducing some of the settings mentioned may reduce CTD's--the fewer clouds drawm, the smaller the load on the graphics card. My cloud settings have always been very straightforward--100pct 3-d, density 100pct, draw distance 30-50 miles (I prefer 30 for the pickup in fps). I can't stand the look of the 2-d or "imposter" clouds.... I haven't had a CTD during flights since the beginning of the year when I was testing scenarios with the seasonal CTD. That fix has long since been applied.-John
April 23, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi, Most 95% fs9.cfg line are the Fs 2004 display slider and details, you don't need to touch these manually, the slider are created for this. The CloudsImpostorRingRadius= it's the clouds draw distant slider in fs2004, 128000.000000 setting is the max slider to right in fs2004,(80 mile 128Km), CloudsImpostorRingRadius=48000.000000 is the lower left slider in fs2004 30 mile)Start to use the fs2004 slider before touching any fs9.cfg line, the 30 mile clouds draw slider distant is recommended for better performance. I don't recommend to use fs9.cfg setting manually at all, only if the line is not available in the fs2004 display wich are 1%, most are the duplication of the slider in fs2004 display screen!-Clouds Slider Display in fs2004 recommendationClouds draw distant to 30,40 mileClouds percentage to 100%Clouds density to high, medium or low.AA tips:-Gforce Cards do not antialise the clouds for 2x or 4x, all others QQ, 6 etc. sample yes, it will reduce fps with clouds in the screen.-ATI cards do not antialise clouds at all with all sample.Ps: The 64MB RAM cards may cause some anomalie with your setting, you won`t able to use it at high details etc.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
April 23, 200422 yr The CLOUD_DRAW_DISTANCE= the cloud draw distance slider in the SETTINGS/DISPLAY/WEATHER page. The number in the .cfg file is the miles divided by 10. 30 miles=3 up to 80 miles=8.The CloudsImpostorRingRadius= doesn't have it's own slider and the value in the .cfg depends on a combination of the cloud draw distance and the 3-D cloud percentage setting. It can range fromdraw distance 30 with 3-d 10% =4800. to 100%=48000.draw distance 40 with 3-d 10% =6400. to 100%=64000.draw distance 50 with 3-d 10% =8000. to 100%=80000.draw distance 60 with 3-d 10% =9600. to 100%=96000.draw distance 70 with 3-d 10% =11200. to 100%=112000.draw distance 80 with 3-d 10% =12800. to 100%=128000.Kurt M
