Help for ATI users with slow loading/blurry textures

Featured Replies

Hey guys,I bought a new graphics card (Radeon 9800 pro 128MB) about a month ago now. Ever since i thought the textures in FS were loading very slowly, and sometimes AI traffic would be blurry. I did some digging and found out that my AGP sttings under the SMARTGART tab were 'off', even though it was enabled in my bios. I thought this was strange and would be directly related to my texture problems.Of course it was! I followed a very useful post here on avsim which described exactly my issue and described how i should update my motherboards VIA chipset drivers. All is working fine now, and my AGP settings are now set correctly to 8x.I've seen a few other posts from people with the same problem, so i thought i'd bring it up.Here's the link to the post if you need it!http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...78700&mode=full

HelloGlad not the only oneI also have this problemIt happens in fligt, when flying at x2 or (worse) x4.I also happens when looking at AI with CTRL+W in spot view. Textures will remain blurry for a long time.I tried everything. Yesterday, I even changed the drivers to latest ATI catalyst. My system is AMD 2800+, Nvidia nForce U400, 1 GB PC333, ATi radeon 9600 Pro 128MB. Running AGP x8, 4AA, 16AF, FSgenesis, resized textures for autogen, airports, clouds... I think my system is pretty much optimized.I think this problem happened recently because I don't remenber suffering from it before.Do you have a clue?

Have you checked your SmartGart properties? Click on Start>Run> type "smartgart". If all features on the SmartGart page are NOT enabled then you need to reinstall your m/b chipset drivers. Also, it would be a good idea to reload DirectX after installing new drivers.Cheers,Greg

Chipset drivers are absolutely crucial with Windows XP getting up there in age now - most of the new boards do not have native support for their AGP implementations built into the OS and as a result you won't get the benefits of the card without installing them.

Thanks for that adviceI thhink my M/b is a Nvidia nForce2 Ultra 400. What kind of other drivers should I install apart from what I installed when I build my PC and tha ATI catalyst?I did not check teh smartgart thing because i am not on my computer at this time but I will definitely do it.
